Factory 2nds - do you buy them or avoid them?

I just picked up a 3rd generation c628 that's a factory 2nd. I can't find anything wrong with it. It's inked correctly on the tang and then stamped XX over it. It also doesn't have the '3rd Generation' ink on the blade. I'm curious if collectors generally avoid these. How do you guys feel about 2nds? Would you add them to your own collection?

I have a few. They make good examples of the pattern until you can acquire a better one. The best deal is when you get them at a good discount and intend to use it. Some do avoid them. Which is good for those that don't.

If it is a more uncommon pattern or for a good user I have bought several. Usually hard to find the flaw.

I don't buy them. But if it was a knife I was going to carry and use, I probably would.

Minor cosmetic flaws don't bother me at all for users...they will likely soon have a mark or two anyway.

I won't buy Schrade 2nds because there is usually no need to do so with the vast amount of USA Schrades still coming up for auction at reasonable prices. As a display piece the "XX" or ground off stamp is unsightly and when it comes to examples that have no obvious defects I'm always wondering if it was the blade temper that was off and a poorly tempered blade will make a poor user knife.

If you're looking for a cheap user I would suggest buying a used 1st. Just my two-cents...
