Crap, I'll NEVER make 200 knives. :(

They go faster than you think Patrice. How many have you made? I've lost count years ago. You're young still.

I am 41 years old Bruce and working on 10 and 11 right now. Maybe when I retire things will pick up a little. Still 12 years to go *sigh*. :(

I never lost count; I just stopped counting :D. What Bruce said about many blades is true, but don't get caught up in the number. Focus your concerted effort on each blade you make. I've seen maker's fist knives that are better than other maker's 100th knife. Put the time and effort into each one to make it right.

And then when you reach 200, you'll be as confident as Bruce Bump (though I doubt I'll EVER match the stones that Bruce has when grinding on/around painstakingly fully engraved work). That's a good thing, though as we all need heros. Bruce, "did you ever know that you're my herooo....." :D

Yes Nathan, I only know how many I made cause I post them to my website. Not focusing on numbers.

It's just that since the way you progress depends on your natural abilities and I obviously don't have anything near what Bruce has (not many do), I was a little discouraged.

Bruce is absolutely right, making knives is much like making posts here, as they tend to rack up in numbers over time.

I remember early in my knifemaking, a few people recommended that I place a production number on each knife I make. I regret that I didn't take that advice, it would be interesting to know just how many knives were born in my shop over the years.
