Failed Res C?

Does anybody have any stories or pictures of a Res C failing (cracking or tearing)? I love the ergos of this material, but I need some reassurance of it's durability.
 
The only failure I have heard of involved torsion applied to the handle with some sort of tool. You are certainly not going to do it with your hands. There may have been a case where the tang cut through the butt of the handle after extreme pounding but that's it.

Heard of a very few instances of it getting a bit loose on the tang after ALOT of use (but maintaining its integrity). This was dealt with under the fantastic warranty.

As far as I am concerned it is the best of the rubbery handle materials and is extremly durable.

I saw my friends Howler fall into the fire and sat there for a few seconds before it was pulled out--didn't notice any issues.

I would not hesitate to buy anything with a Res-C handle.

Actually, it is the only rubbery handle type material that I would consider purchasing...
 
The most beat up res-C handle I have seen belonged, I think , on Cliff Stamps CampTramp ! That had been repaired with epoxy, maybe someone can dig up a pic !!!
 
I destroyed a Battle Rat handle through extreme use as a thrower and prying/twisting. It split at the front and stretched out some so the tang was rattling around inside. Of course it never became unuseable, nor did it come off. The new handle they installed for free is still going strong.

Res C is the best "Rubber" handle ever.
 
I have put my Battle Rat through a F* ton of abuse! The only thing I haven't done with it is twist and pound its butt, I think those 2 are what will do it in faster. but as far as just chopping, it has never failed.

Lex is great, hungry little kid..EAT EAT EAT, I think he is a HOG by nature....until the new Chop Daddy comes out!
 
I've cut a couple of res-c grips. Both times were from amateurish, poorly made kydex sheaths that cut into them. Both times I was able to repair by heating the res-c with a lighter and "molding" the surface cut back into the form I wanted to see.
 
Don't delay, get your Res-C today. It's a REALLY tough material. I was beating on my Battle Rat yesterday doing some brush clearing. No problems. And as was said before it's usually field reparable by heating it up and remolding it into shape. Works great.

What blade are you considering?
 
Never. I've beaten my old HR quite a bit. Lost the tip, orginal edge, and its got a nice patina on it, but the handle still looks new. Always secure grip, even in cold weather which I hear in some cases make your handle shrivel..

Does anyone still an HR? Do you use them?

just for clarification, that picture is of a scrapyard knife works s6. yes it is res-c, but no it is not on a swamp rat knife. that may or may not be pertinent. there is a thread going at the scrapyard forum about this particular tear, which everyone seems to agrees is somewhere in between "the first of its kind" and "extremely rare."
 
well i didnt expect to see my picture over here, heck i left it off for a reason, but its ok. yes it is a scrapper 6. And yes i am being told it is extremely rare for this to happen. I done this by batoning right above the handle. Currently in contact with scrapyard personnel about it.

Here's the pictures. There was nothing wrong with the handle. Cliff just "modified" to suit his needs. He eventually broke the blade, but it took 2 years of brutality to do it.

Ding! Ding! Talon hole... Jason is just so used to seeing talon holes that he didn't think anything of it. :p
 
Those are before and after pictures. A lot of the original blade was ground away. Cliff wrote a long article about it. Beside the abuse he put it through, he loaned it out for other folks to beat on. I don't remember all the details, but it was pounded into a tree to use as a step and someone tried to sharpen it with a Dremel grinder.

I did some searching and found the thread. Unfortunately, the pictures are gone.
