Listen guys, there seems to be an recent upsurge in ebay spotting. The forum rules on this are clear. The next guy who mentions an ongoing ebay auction is going to get the hammer dropped on them for whatever infractions fits. Ebay has made enough off of the traffic the mentions here have brought them. Don't even back door it by saying "do you see such and such on that place we don't talk about", you may as well post a link. I don't want to be a prick, but I don't want it getting out of hand.

Seems reasonable to me.

One of the things I love the most about BF is the lack of advertising and spam. Hats off to the Mods for their swift and diligent response to spam.

Progunner, it's yours & the other Busse forum Mods' call... But I don't suppose that you could sticky this for about a week or so, could ya? Ya know... Give everybody a good chance to see it? That way... If you have to drop the hammer on someone, there won't be room to question why. I'm in agreement with you too about this issue.

(TL, I'm not pointing at ya either! :):))

You need to man up with all this auction spotting....;)
This is all your fault !!

Shouldn't all Rules be enforced equally?

This is from Sparks rules on posting:

Don't register gimmick or troll accounts
If you are found out to have one, expect to be permabanned.

How many around here would get banned?.... Maybe even a Mod or two

All you gotta do is look at all the fake Jerry's and start banning Ip's

I just re-read the FAQ, which prohibits auction spotting. Just to be clear, can we discuss completed ebay posts? Can we discuss ebay in general?

I'm not a big fan of euphemisms like "that place which can't be named". Also, interesting stuff floats through Ebay from time to time - like the SOUL or one-of-a-kind pieces of Busse history. The blades themselves are appropriate to talk about in this forum. Doing it post-auction removes the possibility of improper "auction spotting".

Like the current thread about blades selling for big bucks draws on some recent Ebay sales. It's useful information, generally interesting, and doesn't take money away from Bladeforums by directing people to buy other places. (OK, it might make someone think they can get more money on Ebay, and not buy a selling membership here because they choose to sell on Ebay. That seems a bit tangential to me, though.)

I know that it's a tough call to decide where exactly to draw the line. I'll certainly give Spark and the Mods the benefit of the doubt, but I'd like to know what's acceptable before I put my foot in my mouth!

I agree, I sometimes like to discuss completed auctions to get info on the knife in general, of get a feel for the value of the knife.

Ebay is a terrible indicator of value, sometimes it's nice to be able to confirm if you got a good deal or not. Or if someone else did... :D

It is my understanding that completed auctions are alright to talk about since the business has already been transacted. That is the way it has been in the past. When in doubt, don't.

That is a valid point. As far as the fake Jerry's are concerned, the real Jerry has said he was against banning them. I concede that Spark is the ultimate authority in matters of his forums, but if the sub forum's head has no beef, then I don't see what it hurts. It is confined to this sub forum and done in the spirit of things when there are ganzas and such. Now if someone had a fake ID and was going out among the rest of the forums and stirring the pot then that is another matter. Being that Mike and I are the only non Busse employees acting as moderators, I can't say that I particularly like your accusation, but I know where you are coming from. I suspect that if some of the fake Jerry account holders were banned, Jerry might get a load of emails from some prominent Hogs begging him to take it up with Spark. That would not good for anyone's business.

Well... THIS leaves some room for interpretation, too... Because Spark has stated that BladeForums does not close accounts. If you want one closed, see this LINK... And the fate of the 'Jerrys' was decided in this thread started by the Boss, himself...

The Fate Of The Jerrys And Some INFI HOG Q: & A:

...In which he states:
I realize that the multiple Jerries are a pain in the katookis for the new guys. . . . and they're an even bigger pain for the girls in the office when they try to sort through the hundreds of emails. . . . But gosh darn it, I like the deceitful little porkers!!! They exemplify the true spirit of the INFI HOGs . . . . They stay!!!. . . "NO REGRETS!"...

:Snip:

...Nuke on my wayward HOGs!

Jerry:D

...Which rules out these accounts being troll accounts since Jerry has welcomed these in the spirit of No Regrets... I'm hazy on the definition of 'gimmick accounts', so I will leave that be...

I will just say that... In the Forum of the INFI, the Boss HOG is King. :D:D ...However, Spark DOES have the final say on this since it's HIS house. :)

This is great. I make perhaps my first, if not then my first in a looooong time, auction spotting post. Although it was not intended that but rather a clarification on a model I'd never heard of before. (But I understand the mods position here completely). And it becomes a sticky for all to see.

Why not just brand me with a scralet H.
:p

Nah... But there IS this other punishment... :p :D:D:D

;) LOL (Just playin'!)

You can't be given an infraction by a nicer guy! Thanks for the heads up, and giving us a warning first, Progunner.

Thanks for the heads up progunner, I agree with Jaxx in leaving this up for a while. Some dont post as often as others and it'd be good for everyone to see it.
