Fairly new to Spyderco..

Compared to my higher end Spyderco knives (Slysz, Techno, PPT, PM2) the Delica feels cheap. Real cheap, but it can cut like crazy. Good knife just to have around. Easily replaced when lost, stolen, drowned, etc...

If the Delica feels too flimsy, perhaps check out a G10 Native. It's higher priced but for me its a much preferable blade. If you can stand something a little bigger, check out a Gayle Bradley 1. Despite the hype that the Delica and PM2 get, the Native and GB1 are my favorite Spyderco blades. I think most of the peeps who love the Delica would never touch it again after having a Caly 3, lol.

Enjoy!

I started out with an Endura just over 20 years ago. Had two of em. I didn't like them very much, therefore I abused the crap out of em. Broke the tips and destroyed the SE.

I can say a few things about those "plasticy" Spydercos; they can take SO much abuse and still lock up solid.

I don't have a Delica, but it's made from the same exact stuff as the Endura, so it's just as tough.

Use it like you HATE it.! That's the only way you'll find out what sort of knife you have there.

But be warned....something weird will happen.....you'll grow to respect it.....then you'll love it!

I've got an Endura I bought to have as a large, flat, flat ground lightweight folder.

It's effectively identical to the Delica, which is just one reason Spyderco knives have grown on me so.

I view their whole VG-10/FRN line as the ultimate in disposable knives. They are tough, light, they are strong in comparison to most modern folders, they are ugly as sin to the uninitiated but they look fine to me.

Your Delica will never be as cool as a Benchmade or as strong as a G10 Manix2, but it's hella light and slicey af. I took the clip off my Endura and I use it when I'm wearing pants that encourage a tall, flat, light knife.

The Delica line is my favorite, and it turns out that I don't much care for the Tenacious line at all. I'll take FRN over G10 any day of the week, and I'll say the same about the back lock over the liner lock. What's the secret to the Delica and Endura? The secret is that there isn't a secret, you just have to put it in your pocket and go to work. :)

This thing has done a LOT of work over the last 1.5 years.

Well a quick question here by the way, do you guys ever take apart your Delica?

-Kevin
They are kind of a pain in the but to reassemble. The lock bar spring is under a bit of tension and you need 4 hands to make it all line up. Just my opinion mabey I was missing some technique.

This fits with my general feelings about Spydie knives. I understand your sense that the Delica is flimsy. That's because it has no liners which add a lot of strength. The FRN Native was my very first Spydie (Walmart purchase back when they carried them) and I thought it was expensive (then). Then came the Endura which I decided that I was uncomfortable carrying due to blade length mostly. Still a good knife. The Delica came next; very good knife and the standard that I apply to knives when I choose an knife for EDC because I find the size just about perfect. Have the Native 5 with G10 and it is a VERY solid knife. My favorite Spydies are the Delica and Native 5. I will eventually pickup a PM2, but no hurry. Been really happy with the Kiwi 4 also which is in VG-10; just felt it was a bit pricey, but I still really like it when I want a smaller knife. I think you will become very happy with the Spydie line and you will buy more as you become comfortable with the pricing of the more expensive models.

Hello, this is only my second day on this forum. I am a huge knife nut, but mainly own lower grade steel blades (8CR13, 8CR14). I recently purchased my first "premium" steel blade, which is the Spyderco Delica 4 in VG-10 steel. I have owned the Ambitious for awhile now, and absolutely love it. I bought the Delica because of the quality I saw in the low-end Spyderco. I love the Delica 4, but have noticed it feels a bit flimsy. I also had to bend the pocket clip, due to it being too loose for my liking. It still isn't as tight as I prefer, but it isn't a big deal. Based off reviews, I know the Delica is a solid blade. I'm just used to bulkier blades in G10, such as my CRKTs. What are some good Spyderco characteristics that should persuade me to carry my Spydies more often?

I give you none other than the recently discontinued Gayle Bradley CP134 (not to be confused with the new Gayle Bradley 2, which doesn't t compare). Strongly suggest you look into this knife. Very strong knife, that actually cuts, with incredible build quality, fit and finish. Its the 'James Bond' of knives. A real wolf in sheep's clothing. If its too heavy for you go for Paramilitary 2. But as 'nutnfancy'(you tube) says I'll take the weight if I get something for it, and you will not regret buying a Gayle Bradley. I don't know anyone who has.

Either you may want to double check that, or I got a good one w/ skeletonized liners. ;)

I see two (primary) schools of thought on this forum. There are users and there are collectors - there is everything in between of course, but I notice those two most often. I look at a Sebenza and think of all the other things I could do with that $400+. Sebenza collectors/guys probably look at my beat up Delica and Endura and think they're ugly and ultimately not all that cool - they're absolutely right, and that's what I love about them.

My brain is fried today, but my point is this. If you don't care about the flashy bits and really put your knives to work, you're going to be very happy with a Delica. If you're more about the collector value, aesthetics, exclusivity, uniqueness, exotic materials, etc., a Delica isn't going to do anything for you. There's nothing wrong with either camp, but that just seems to be a pattern I've noticed. In the same way that a Rubicon owner probably doesn't carry (or care about) a Delica, I have zero interest in a Rubicon. It's relative, no doubt. I just hate seeing people expecting too much out of something that may not be a good fit for them, especially considering the lasting impact first impressions can make.

It may have skeletonized liners. Never really looked that carefully. But comparing it to the Native 5 with G10 handles, it certainly has a more flimsy feel.

Just looked at my endura, the "liner" only seems to be there to hold the lock rigid.

Regardless of what anyone here says, we can't persuade you into liking something...

They are quality knives meant to be carried and used. If that isn't enough, try ZT, Emerson, Benchmade... There are plenty of options if one knife from one brand doesn't strike a chord with you. Even a different Spyderco may resonate better with your wants.

I just got my first ever Spyderco a few days ago. I wanted to carry a pocket knife at work, but my organization has blade length restrictions of 2.5", so I had to get something that was 2.5" or less, but I didn't want some cheap piece of crap either. I have heard lots of good things about Sypderco so I did some research into them and I decided on the Spyderco Cat G-10, which has a blade length of ~ 2.4". I really like it so far. It seems like the perfect size and weight and it feels good in the hand. I also like how solid it feels when the blade locks into place. Now I have the Sage 1 on my wish list. :)

Hi. I am also somehow "new" to Spydercos. I agree with most of the things said here. They are "function oriented" designed knives, mainly built to cut from well to extremely well.

The Pacific Salt I own since few years now it's a great "holidays knife". Really capable for my EDC uses and absolutely "care-free". Left it wet, dirty, sitting in the bottom of a fishing boat, under the sunbed all day long and I just have to rinse it and it's ready to go again. I open clams, shells, clean fish, do some sandwiches on the beach, peel my fruits, slice coconut, it is always a performer. Easy to sharpen, it takes a very good, long lasting edge. The PM2 I got more recently it's a different beast... it's a super-slicer and a solid EDC. It has some highs and lows as bushcraft/hiking/camping companion, anyway.

I am very attracted by the Native 5 in CPM 110V, size and ergonomics "on papers" really looks perfect for my EDC uses. The steel I am also curious about. Also I am developing a rather "irrational" attraction towards the Techno... :D. Yes, somehow, though aesthetically they don't appeal to me so much, Spyderco got me :).

some aftermarket custom G10 scales would really improve the feel of sturdiness if it's to much of a ''con'' for you. I have allen putman royal blue anso style scales of my SB endure and it does make it feel so much better! But on the other hand, one gains in appreciation of how well done the FRN design is. I left my SB delica unchanged, aside a custom low rider ti clip(awesome it is!), and it feels just perfect, especially because of how light it is.
