A friend of mine just sent me a notice that some one was selling a counterfeit of my first A. G. Russell/Randall Special. I looked and the knife seems to have been cut down from some other knife.
The knife is Wrong and is probably worth a third or less than it is selling for.

I would have gone direct to the seller but I do not know how to send him a message.

My Son and I are regular walk-in customers at the A.G. Russell showroom. Nice folks, quality products! AAA Thanks for the heads up, we have enough garbage to deal with day-to-day without someone taking advantage of two of the knife world greats!

I suspect that the seller is not the guilty party here. I think someone took another Randall and tried to make it something it was not.

What I wonder is what made the seller think it was an A. G. Russell special? If it had the original sheath yes, but without a Randall sheath?

Emailing ebay swindlers to tell them they're selling a fake seldom has the desired effect.

Reporting them to the ebay administration can sometimes be effective; that seems to depend mainly on who's doing the reporting.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

AG Russell- Since he's stealing your trademark / misrepresenting this as one of your items, there is a good chance that EBAY will listen to you. They pull ad's the misrepresent or misuse a trademark, and ban repeat offenders. Ebay gives a lot more attention when the holder complains. At a minimum, you could be able to get the AG Russell references removed. Report the listing.

Bernard Levine strongly encourages people NOT to contact ebay fakers. All you generally accomplish is to alert them as to how make a better fake in the future. As a matter of fact, contacting ebay fakers is a bannable offense within his little fifedom of Bernard Levine's Knife Collecting and Identification forum.

No. Running to the fakers and telling them what Bernard Levine said (or what others said on his forum) is a banning offense. AG is not doing that.

Thanks, How do I do that?

There is a box at the bottom of each auction page to report items for various reasons. Just follow the step by step instructions, it will be acted on. I recently have had two auctions pulled for two different reasons. One fraud and one prohibited. Easy to do.

you have to be a member to report it, A.G.

I took care of it for you. Here's the message I included:

Kinda curious James as to what the "one prohibited" item was...?

Thanks, G

I suspect the seller IS the guilty party. There has been a pattern of this very same thing with this seller.

He has sold other modified A.G.Russel's/Randall's on ebay in the past.

These must be badly worn or damaged Randalls that are being modified. Otherwise why modify it? In decent condition the original Randall would have probably sold for more.

Keith,

The Randall shop foreman has stated that these knives were NOT made by the shop! In other words these are not modifications.

Keith,

I've heard it rumored that these were blades obtained illicitly, rehandled by someone other than RMK, then sold as a collection to the eBay seller in question...that's the rumor anyway

The seller has been told the knives are illigitimate, or so I've heard, and continues to sell them anyway. So, I no longer buy from him, or do business with him in any way, shape, or form...plain and simple.

Shel

p.s. He won't be buying any more Randall Knives books from us either - he bought two cases before this story broke, that's enough...

p.p.s. He wanted to co-write a new Ruana Knives book with us...that ain't happenin' either ;)
