Fake Ash-1 from China

Don't let Jaxx fool you - he is trying to hog at least 27 of them for himself. ;):D

Seriously, thanks to SS1945, Jaxx and others for helping to identify fake Busses as soon as possible.

There was a fake SAR-6 on ebay with that same logo on it, so I guess they are copying multiple Busse knives. It might still be there.

Edit: just looked around and couldn't find it.

I get it, but if anyone is stupid enough to buy a Chinese fake especially when its linked from this forum with the title of "Fake Ash-1 from China", do you think it matters? What if someone saw the Chinese fake listing first and THEN came here to see the link that it is indeed a fake. Didn't that person just get saved from being ripped off? It can go both ways.

Some people would rather buy the fakes. Each time someone posts to this thread, it bounces this thread back to the top of site-wide "New Posts" pages where the whole site sees the thread if browsing the latest posts... So, this is really the only decent compromise between getting the info out quickly to warn others, and helping someone else find where to go to get not only this one, but any other knock-off that catches their eye when they follow the link back to the website.

It is also the rule here on BF now as well:

The Counterfeit Rule
Thanks to the Busse forum mods, we now have a reasonable rule for discussing counterfeits. We don't want to give scammers any help advertising their sales but we do want to help identify the bad guys.

Manufacturers get to police discussions of counterfeits in their own forums. Other discussions go in FEEDBACK and are subject to The Rule:

They may post pictures along with their thread, but only hosted by them on an image hosting site or their account here. This way it can't be opened in a new page to see the site address, or can't be located by the "copy image url" option, no links to auctions of counterfeits, whether live or finished, no hints to where they are or were. That way the discussion stays where it belongs, on "How to ID a fake" only.

Furthermore, no more long drawn-out trolling discussions on Why Counterfeits Are Good For The Knife Industry. We have a Dumbass Thread for that.

Thanks Jaxx, I didn't have a photobucket acct. to change the URL on the photos.

It would be prudent to delete the pics then if you don't plan on hosting the pics…… ;)

It's all good, I'm now hosting the copies in his post, swapped them out yesterday. :)

I believe my friend Tuica spotted this a couple of weeks ago (or could have been yet another fake B'kin). He also forwarded the link to Busse HQ. Not sure if he got a response...Cheers.

holy cow, what does the etching even say???

It says:
EUSST C(dogtag)DHSAT.
Guess they dunno about the tag representing a letter, LOL
In other words...
"I am a counterfeit POS made in China from inferior materials and I come with NO warranty. Don't buy me."

Rules are rules, I guess, but what's the point? It's not like its hard to find a fake, if that's what you're after. It took me about 30 seconds to find it, even with all that information deleted. All I had to do was a pretty obvious Google search based on nothing more than the information in the picture, and I found lots of sites (or maybe lots of pages going to the same site) that sold this very same ASH-1 rip-off and others. There was something that looked an awful lot like an SAR-5, for instance. It turns out you can get a Hinderer for under twenty bucks too, if that's what floats your boat.

And it seems like for pretty much any maker, you can find all the knock-offs your heart desires with very little effort or imagination. Want a Spyderco for five bucks? No problem! Been waiting for years for a Busse folder? Wait no more!

China is here, Mr. Burton.

So why make it any easier? I know it doesn't take a rocket surgeon (;)) to find where, but personally, I don't want to help folks find fakes in the slightest. If folks want them, then they can go look on their own for themselves.

This site is for the makers & manufacturers that produce their own models through their own ideas and experience, not the manufacturers who steal others' intellectual property and/or company names and trademarks for the sake of knocking them off for cheap using lesser quality materials or selling cheapo knock-offs under the name(s) or trademark(s) of reputable makers and their companies.

There are some things I just don't get why china tries to copy.

Sure, Busse is a mid-high end knife. They have cache. But the reason they have cache, unlike some brands, is that their product is worth it.

I don't have any busse knives yet (I really want a TGLB, in the worst way imaginable), but I've been very very impressed with my swamprat rodent 6.....enough to give me an idea of what makes these knives sought after. Previously, I had not understood......I just thought it was "another knife," which arguably is true, but the little details that these guys pick up on and execute with style, combined with an eye for great materials and craftsmanship....thats what you are buying.

I don't see how china can copy that. It's not tangible in it's own right, but it's what makes them worth the $$$.

Oh the Chinese EUUST WOMBAT Knife Company making knives for killing the Commie Zombie and perfect for stirring flied lice in the wok :D

The IP theft is more complicated than most of us Americans "think".

US population if just over 5% of the total global population. Our "great ideas" don't have to be sold within our borders. These companies can "use" "our" technology and sell it where our laws are meaningless and STILL make a Yuan/Ruble without "us" ever even knowing it happened. We represent only a fraction of global customers. Imagine if your domestic customer base was 1.3 billion instead of 350 million. Thats alot of bacon.

Guess what folks, it has been happening for quite some time. Our little 5% better start cracking the books and educating our young or look forward to watching the live stream of the other 94% gobbleing up our lunch. At the very least, we will have some smart people around here that can make change of a $20 bill.

In many "measurements" of society, we are on the decline. (national debt just passed GDP) Look at the peole around you. What do you see and how does it make you feel about this competetion? Who will stand up for what is right?

We need to raise our kids to be as tough as INFI!

One more thing to love about Basics. They're so generically boring to look at that there would be no point in copying one. Zero cool factor in terms of looks--all the cool is in the steel, the heat treat, the grade of composite in the handle and how they're put together--all of it hiding in plain sight. Why copy or steal something if only a few educated knife nuts know it's cool? After all, if you have to ask... :D
