Fake Custom Knives

The people who run the Saxet Gun Show have been directed to this thread, as well as asked to compare the knives on his own website to each other to show that they are very obviously not the work of the same maker even though they are being sold as such. Sounds like they are going to make sure he has one fewer venue to shovel his...stuff. They were not happy to hear about these tactics being employed at their show.

Just an off-topic suggestion, but why don't you put a link to this thread in the Good Bad Ugly forum. More people visit that forum than they do the custom forum so it might make this particular problem visible to more folks on BF

Just to let everyone know, I have worked with Jason and made knives in his shop. If anyone would like to complain or if anyone has actually, you know, seen him do any of the things you claim, I'd love to hear it. My email address is: josh.b.jacobs@gmail.com. I've made knives with him so, unlike 98% of you, I can actually back up my statements.

What gets me fuming are people who make false claims online and can't even back them up with evidence.

I know its a bad idea to feed the trolls. But if you would like i can post a copy of the "literature" he hands out when he's selling knives and we can cover the claims point by point.

So first off please provide photographic evidence of mr. jacobs wootz furnace.

oh, and most of his claims are bullshit so......i may have to find a wood sprite to pull Mr. jacobs claims out of it's ass.

but by all means troll harder.:D

one more thing, who are the other 2%.

And remember kids 85% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Wow. This guy's amazing. And I thought I was good at spreading the B.S. thick. Some of this dudes knives are an insult to the Pakistani horrors he's touting as his own.

So, using images from his own website, let's take a look.

Hmmm, the handle seems pretty clunky in comparison to the blade. I wonder if this counts as "Krystal Matrix Damascus" or his "wootz".

jacobs07.jpg

Wow, seems like that wood in the handle would have a bad tendency to break out. Reckon that's why no one else makes handles that way? So far the blades look decently-enough shaped...

jacobs02.jpg

Wow! What happened here? Was he having an off day, or is this one of the blades he actually made himself, while the other two are made by someone else...in another country, perhaps?

jacobs06.jpg

Well this one looks straight. Decent false edge, even.

jacobs03.jpg

What happened? He did so good on the other one's false edge! And what's up with the guard? The one in the first picture is so nice, and this one looks like he forgot to shape it halfway through.

Wow. Just wow. Fine hand craftsmanship there. I'm sure someone who takes such meticulous care with their shaping also puts as much time and effort into heat treating their fine work. I mean, he'll talk your ear off about what a great knife it is, so surely he's got his heat treatment tuned to a high art?

Is this the Wootz? I got something like that once, when I dropped a railroad spike into the bottom of a Johnson trench forge and had to get it back out the next day. I though it was just decarburization. Shoulda kept that spike!

Perhaps I've misjudged? Maybe this is all the work of a single individual who makes knives of a quality not to be found elsewhere throughout the Southwest (paraphrasing from his literature)?

What do y'all think?

Wow. Some of those blades make me want to shudder. It boggles the mind that anyone would actually buy that crap. I like the idea of getting him kicked out of shows. Ebay probably doesn't care though.

LMAO :D ...... but seriously these knives are a disgrace (as is the guy selling this crap) and living in Europe I feel offended that he uses the term European steel for something as ugly as this.

Marcel

I especially like the part where he makes up an internet personality and has the guts to post here.
I don't know where you guys see a problem with these fine blades. Crisp grindlines, great finish, high quality hardware, beautifull handle materials, precise shaping.... I could go on and on. Just look at this great bowie. I am sure that's every outdoorsman's dream. After seeing his grindlines, I'd suggest he stick with Pakistan blades. Metalworking seems to not exactly be his forte.

There's nothing wrong with putting together kit knives, and there's nothing really wrong with this fellow's handmade knives really.

If he had the same interest in knives and worked at this skill level, minus all the know it all preaching, lying, deception and the backwards dealing, I'd feel more inclined to embrace him here.

If he were a beginner at a show with a table full of these knives, and had the drive and ambition and pride to display these knives at a show, then there would be respect and hi-fives abound from me.

Crimsonfalcon07 - Unfotunately, he seems firmly ensconced in the local gun shows here. Fought tooth and nail to stay at the Saxet, and was at the San Antonio Gun Show that they hold 4 times a year. I think eBay booted him some years back, thankfully.

Marcel - But see, over in Yurrip they got these exotic steels what can outperform any of the ho-hum boring stuff we make in the U.S. 'Cuz Yurrip is an exotic place. :D

Cbr900son - There were people showing up at the gun show seeking him out to buy his knives because they were really hard on their knives and tended to lose them, and they didn't mind laying down $30 for a "custom" that they didn't have to worry about the financial investment if it broke or got lost. On the other hand, a number of acquaintences who saw his work and heard his shpiel came away disgusted and irritated. So he's putting off a lot of folks even if he's taking in others.

Josh - If he was honest about what he was selling, I'd raise my eyebrows at the craftsmanship and go on. But he can't even make a straightforward statement about using 1095 plain high carbon steel; it's code-named ISO 1095 from Europe. And he's selling "wootz" knives for well under $100. Why's Al Pendray charging as much as he does? What a ripoff! I can get wootz for $50! :P As for being a beginner, he claims to have been working with metal since the late '60s and making knives since at least 1988.

I try to stay positive when it comes to makers' efforts, but those things are egregiously ugly.

pull your head out of you butt. every day that I come to these board I see another posting about how they got riped off from a seller on EBAY. what does this tell you???
FIND SOME WHERE ELSE TO BUY YOUR KNIFES LIKE HERE WHERE YOU CAN TRUST PEOPLE NOT TO RIP YOU OFF. If you think I am trying to put you down or this thread down then let me tell you that is not what I am trying to do. what I am trying to do is tell you to stay away from fraud city (ebay) and find some one that you can buy from.
