Saw this on the bay today. I messaged the seller saying it wasn't legit and looked like a reproduction/forgery. You can see other letters in the background,I'm thinking it may have been an attempted stamping. Looks like it is Dubuque, Iowa higher up on the axe. Maybe this was the first attempt. Looks like the font is off also. So many things wrong. Look at what is supposed to be the "&", looks like an 8. They soon took it down, seemed like the seller may have been duped. Anyone else see any other fakes/reproductions of these or any other axes??

That A-ole has been selling fakes for over a month. He has been notified by many people and reported to ebay. Nothing works.

How does this person do the forgeries? Seems like it would take an elaborate, expensive and time-consuming process to pull it off.

Can you please elaborate on the Van Camp issue? Not doubting you, I just want to learn what to look for.

If you look at the picture he posted there is a dark spot on the cheek of that head. In that dark spot you can see leftovers of a p and 3 where they didn’t completely etch out before the restamp

Thank you. I see it now. I would have missed that. What did strike me weird is the new etching is awfully crisp considering the rest of the head. Thank again for the clarification.

I do not recall ever seeing big etched logo Van Camp axe with weight stamp on the cheek(32 in this case). Consider discolorations and chemical stains on it. Than comes the seller who mostly sells fakes. Would you take a risk hoping that it might be an original?
Out of 12 heads he sold recntly most likely only Flint Edge might be original.

And those are currently offered by him (small KK hatchet with nail notch might be legit)

I was going to say I think the keen kutter hatchet is real, but I wouldn't even give that seller $1 for it.

He needs a friendly knock on the door from local axe enthusiast who happens to be LEO, too. Ebay is getting commision from the sale of counterfeit items and will not reform itself.
This a response all reporting him get from ebay

From the DMs he had with me and other people it looks like he sits on mountain of fake axe heads that he is going to dump on axe community. I have seen some pics, I could identify fake Zenith KK Amerian Beauty Kelly Vanadium 1900 Kelly Perfect etch on TT era phantom bevel head,

Is there anything keeping him from changing his eBay name over and over again? I can't imagine buying another item on eBay where "authenticity" matters. Bummer on one hand, because this is where I always went for that kind of stuff. Bummer on another hand...because I have a house and shop full of counterfeit crap apparently. I'm just tooooo old to still be getting conned.

It's really pretty striking how little fleabay ever does about this stuff, I've submitted probably a couple dozen claims about counterfeit or otherwise grossly mis-represented items for sale over the years, and have not had one single satisfactory response from them.

Recent sales; so obvious

This is from my personal collection that I have decided to get rid of. I have over 200 axe heads,, hatchets, blacksmith, tools, hammers, etc. etc.. that I will be listing over the next couple of months
There have been a few trolls here on eBay who seem to have a fixation with me. My first post of an axe head for sale , I had an eBay member axe collector message me telling my axe was a fake, I answered all his questions politely about where I purchased it when , etc. He was so rude it was distasteful. But now every axe I have listed he immediately says they are fake . Which he is absolutely lying. Nothing I am selling is a fake or not authentic. I have collecting axes for over 30 years, and will be listing over 200 axe heads in the coming months. I’ve collected everywhere from Maine to upstate New York, from Ohio to California and Arizona. I would never sell anything questionable. My first listing that this maniac questioned, I pulled down immediately because I wanted to be sure. But then after I pulled it down he questioned that as well by saying, “if it was authentic, then why did u pull it down?” So you just can’t win with these type of people. Crazy is crazy and sometimes it can’t be helped. So just letting anyone who is considering bidding , please do so with confidence as everything I am getting rid of is absolutely authentic ( there is really no way to fake these anyway) if you see something questionable please ask questions I will answer the best I can. But if h feel something isn’t right please do not waste my time and yours by bidding. These maniac little men, are now using my photographs and running for sale ads on eBay trying to tell others that I am am selling fakes? Which I am not and what they are doing is illegal and against eBay policy. They are questioning authenticity using my photos? (And comparing my photos to what? The answer is nothing because they don’t have photos of their own , nor do they own the brand of axes they are saying are not authentic. Does this make sense? This is what makes our world a stressful place to live in sometimes , because of creeps like this.
Again everything I am selling is authentic and most likely has a background z so Tory. But again if you are not sure please pass the auction by
