Fake Sebenza 21

I see this is the second thread you've started recently concerning fakes with misleading thread titles. Why don't you spend a little time doing research before making very expensive knife purchases and getting yourself all worked up wondering if it is a fake after the purchase.

That wouldn't be nearly as fun!

Thanks for the help yall. I'll head over to the CRK forum and ask my question for the third time...while being extra careful not to use either of those fancy words. 'Preciate it.

Sebenzas are carburized, not carbidized.

None of them are. Carburized by heating with a torch.

There is much more to carburizing than heating with a torch. I've never seen carburizing or carbidizing listed in the Senenzas specs.

Best thing the OP can do is go to the real deals site. They have a nice write up on how to spot a fake. Since carbidizing is easy to see and carburizing changes colors and Chris mentions neither it's pretty easy to conclude they are neither carbidized or carburized. So use another method to spot a fake.

Wrong Borris. Everything we listed will tell him what he has. And yes the site will help a little . It is very easy to see the masked off area of the lock where it has been treated.

IIRC, Chris carburizes (case-hardens) the lockbar ends to increase wearability.

Woah woah woah... now let's not go bringing common sense into this discussion.

I have yet to see proof as provided by the manufacturer. Sounds like you have it, so share it. I am partial to only believing actual manufacturers. I haven't seen any pics that easily show the masked off area. There aren't any in this thread as of right now. So if the purpose is to help the OP, it wasn't done very well if you don't show what you are talking about.

Let's see manufacturer carburizing information, and pictures. That would be more helpful to the OP. Then maybe how they could spot a fake with that information.

I did share it in the link and the video.

It is in the video I posted in that link (post 29). Again to clarify watch the video.
And you attitude is a little annoying. There are plenty of members like myself that do not speak of something unless we have talked to the company. You can learn to trust a little bit pal.

You can do your own research we are guiding the OP with what to look for.
If you have a sebenza take it apart and you will see this.

And you attitude is a little annoying. Try simply saying. Can you PLEASE post some proof of this from CRK? That would work better.

Lol

The link helped none at all.

In post 22 of the thread you linked for your proof you said

Terry M said he would call when they open and discuss it with them and get back to us.
Good video btw. I forget about this. I watched it a year or two ago. I love the way they grind the blade for extended life. That is pretty good stuff. I love shop videos.
But after watching both I did not see the part where they treat the Ti lock bar.

They case harden the lock area, sweet. Neat technical name is carburizing, check.

As before some awesome pictures or directly quoted hey we carbirize (case harden) the locking area would be even more helpful.

Just trying to point out no one has really posted any info that helps the OP, that's all. Nothing annoying about that. You already put all your chips on the table, now flip them cards over.

that is the best I can do. sorry. I have no time and have not slept for a few days from double shifts. go to the crk forum and make a thread with your questions there and we will help you out. we posted material from crk and videos that show these things. best of luck. all the things mentioned will help the Op when he takes his knife apart. they are all visual clues.

Is it really that uncommon to do some research before impulse buying a 4-500 $$ knife? LOL

Hell, you guys should see my handwritten spec and comparison sheet I used before I bought my last $200 flashlight.
God/The devil is in the details!

That is how I feel as well. I do my research and study just about every single detail by the time a knife or product gets to me. I feel like it is my job as the consumer and also. I just love learning.
