I'm looking to get a small sebenza 21, it says it's pre Idaho made and it's going for much less then I can normally find because the previous owner added a swedge. Is there a way to spot if it's a fake?

Thanks

Post some pictures here and we can help you out,Several angles would be best. Does it have papers and the birthday card?

Does the seller have any credentials? Even if they do it doesn't mean they can't screw you over, but it would help play a role in my decision.

It doesn't have and papers or birthday card

Sorry for the bother,, the asking price is the only way I'll probably be able to ever get a Sebenza

I don't see a swedge. I see where someone effed up the blade close to the spine. Not even remotely a swedge.

I'm not a big Sebenza fan, but lemme ask you this; what's the point of the whole fit and finish, simple beauty appeal of a Sebenza if it has this huge glaring flaw? It's really not worth it, especially considering any repair of said flaw is gonna be paid out of pocket. Just save up.

The swedge is barely noticeable near the tip.
I'm debating it because it's hard for me to justify buying a new small sebenza for almost 500$ (being in Canada) and I feel like it ok if I can get this one for 250$
I'm kinda dumb like that

Chris Reeve if I recall is from South Africa, so it would make sense that he would've made knives before moving his factory to Idaho. Not sure how real it is though.

My suggestion? Find a trustworthy person in the states and have them ship it to you. Get it for a much lower price. If such a thing is possible. From what I see in the pic of the blade, it isn't worth it, especially since that paperwork does give you certain entitlements with CRK.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion, I was a bit iffy when I saw that it didn't come with the paperwork.
I am going down to Arkansas in January, if I can save up in time, maybe I'll snag one while I'm down there, that or the Ti-lock :B

That thing is ragged as hell; you'll be paying $115-135 to have the blade replaced and it's pretty obvious from the pics that some of the screws are stripped as well. I wouldn't touch that one. You shouldn't have a problem finding someone on the exchange selling one, not everyone is cool with shipping across the border but as long as you accept responsibility for the knife and the additional shipping fees, you should be able to find someone to do it. Or you could always buy one from a US retailer and have it shipped to wherever you're going in Arkansas.

Sweet. Patience is often rewarded. Good luck and good hunting.

It looks like the tip was beaten on and re profiled to fix/hide that. 225$ MAX for a small in that condition.

Thanks for everyone's help, I'm sure I would've regretted it if I jumped on it.
I'll keep an eye out for a sebenza or ti-lock in Arkansas

I have a 1997 that looked worse than that before I sent it in for a refurb.
Came back looking like new other than the penetrator tip I had put on it. Yeah, I kinda regret doing that to the tip, but it didn't hurt anything other than resale value, and I'll never sell it.
Looks like the guy was going to do something like I did, but didn't knock off much more than the tumbled finish.

That model is still being made though, so that price is a bit high for one in that condition.

What does a trip to the spa cost? The way some people talk about sebenzas and their warranty, this should be no big deal.

Shipping to Canada is only $35.00 (from my experience) save up another 100.00 bucks and buy a nicer Small Sebenza off the Fourm.. Just my humble opinion.

I'm thinking so too, I'll be in the states in January for vacation, I'll see if I can pick one up then.
