fake sebenza?

Just because the box and papers are missing does not mean it's a fake. Boxes, paper work gets lost, misplaced and is worthless compared to the knife.

No, but the other things mentioned certainly indicate it is not authentic.

By the way, you are correct that these items can be lost or misplaced, but are not worthless.

Kick back and read a bit. There is much to learn here for the willing. It can be the difference between buying a knife for $242 that is worth 3 to 4 times that amount, and buying a knife for $242 that is worth about 5 bucks;)

I beg to differ, with CRK knives, the box, paperwork complete the knife rendering it authentic. A USA made without paperwork, like Unit stated is not as valuable as one with all the paperwork. Even a refurbished B-day card is not as valuable as the original.
You are absolutely right, just because it doesn't have the paperwork/box doesn't mean it's a fake, however, selling on certain sites is a clear indication it is a fake and the sellers know they can't produce the proper paperwork. Been there, done that. Always err to the safe side, no box/paperwork = fake

A counterfeiter can reproduce the paperwork easier than they can manufacturer the knife. An authentic knife without the papers is an authentic knife without papers. It does not mean it is a counterfeit because that papers are missing. People move, reduce unnecessary clutter and junk in their lives, papers can get wet, moldy etc and are thrown out as worthless paper. The knife is worth money, the paperwork is just paper, worth a few dollars at the most.

I'm going to show you how the counterfeiters are reproducing the paperwork. If you go to AliExpress, type in the search box: "Wild boar Chris Reeve Large Sebenza 25 Folding knife sebenza 25 anniversary D2 blade with stone wash TC4 titanium alloy handle", it is being sold by the seller with the name of: "DongCheng Outdoors Co.", Ltd., it should take you to their selling ad which shows 10 pictures of the knife they are selling. In some of those photos, you'll see the paper work that has been copied.

Does that change your mind about the "no box/paperwork = fake" comment you made? You have the knife, which looks authentic, and you have the paperwork. It goes to show you how easy it is to copy the paperwork. The hard part is in the knife manufacturing and materials. The counterfeiters must buy one authentic knife, and then copy everything or get the details from internet photos.

Nope, does not change my mind. In the pictures the B-day card is never shown. To the novice, it looks good. That's why places like BF are a good place for help. The OP hopefully learned from the replies and the thread was insightful for him. One has to be careful on some selling sites and often times some feedback can help someone with their decision before a purchase is made.

I'll grant that counterfeiting a birth card would not be that difficult.

I'll also respect anyone that claims that they will not buy a CRK that does not have papers.

I'd also expect that two identical authentic CRKs will fetch different prices if one is lacking papers (and I'd expect the one without to sell for less).

The bottom line is, there is not much to guarantee that a knife on the secondary market is legit, but we can all set criteria that must be met for us to feel good about buying. If a guy wants to say he won't buy if it doesn't have papers, that is up to him. Sure, he might still end up with a fake, but LACK of papers certainly does little to bolster confidence;)

The box and papers can be an indication of the knife being genuine or not, but it's also just one of a number of factors in buying. To some it means nothing and to some it's deal breaker. At the end of the day there is no 100% answer so there is no point looking for one. It seems this is just another subject for this GGB guy to pick about and try and get some sort of problem to bubble up over....

"If you buy like a fool you'll get fooled when you buy".... There is even have a Latin phrase for that it's so old...... :D
