Fake Spyderco

When I was down in Gatlinburg I saw a few shops with "Spyderco" knives, only they were super cheap (under $20), and the Spyderhole was filled with what looked like a rubber cork to make a monsterous thumb stud. Also the fact that they were being sold from a large plastic bin with no boxes...

Just to give your friend a few points to consider:

1. Spyderco knives have a circle cut in the blade for opening, known as the "Spyderhole." This knife does not.
2. The Spyderco blade serrations have a specific shape know as "SpyderEdge," which this blade lacks.
3. The pivot is unlike any other Spyderco blade.
4. The blade has a flipper, again unlike any Spyderco.
5. The blade has both the Spyderco name and "bug." Spyderco just uses the bug.
6. All Spyderco knives have the blade steel and country of origin etched near the blade tang. This knife does not.
7. No Spyderco knife has a large spider engraved like that on the handle.
8. The other side of the knife isn't shown, but the way it rests indicates there is no pocket clip attached. Every Spyderco folder this size has one.
9. The thick tango blade grind doesn't appear in any other Spyderco model. Most are leaf shaped.
10. The knife is not in the current Spyderco catalog or any from the last five years.

WHOA WHOA WHOA guys! Did any of you actualy look at it before you jumped to conclusions? Its clearly a very limited edition Spyderco/S&W colab. You can clearly see the S&W influence in every aspect, I can even see their patented poor edge retention. In fact the picture is getting dull as I'm looking at it ;)

Don't you hate how some people who knows nothing about the subject and insists on arguing with a person who is far more knowledgeable? I use to argue with those people a lot back in middle school and high school. Now that I'm mature I know to just let those people think whatever they want and ignore them.

Never say never. :D

No, Never say "always";)

The knife is almost certainly real, but I do not believe it is a Spyderco knife:)

The world is full of amazing stuff. I met a guy driving a Chevrolet Lumina in the late 1990s that had Lamborghini badges on it. The funny thing was, after talking with him for a while he told me about how frequently people would ask him if it was real. He always responded, "this car is real, my friend".

Hahaha, yeh I had the same experience some time back. There was this shop that customized ordinary bikes to look like more expensive racing bikes. Camel back tanks, radiator hoods, box type swing arms, etc. I had a bike that I customized with a racing kit but looked just like what it was,a suzuki TS full floater. The guy kept telling me that he would mod it to look like this and that. I always replied that I might fool all the folks but that I could never fool myself.

wow what an awful fake that would be like putting a rolex crown on a casio calculator watch. i will admit i like the spider on the handle.

that kills my plans of putting an m3 badge on my 3 series tomorrow. lol

The only thing more obviously fake than that would be a transvestite at a nude beach.

Let me guess, the local shops also sold 'patched' donuts with no holes?

Well, she has had over two weeks to consider whether this is real or fake. Any word from her?

Btw, FAKE as they come, and I've only been looking at Spyderco's for a couple of months!

Common guys, it says Spyderco right on it, what more do you need? You guys are just being a bunch of know it alls- you don't know for sure it's fake.

:D

It sucks that someone put down their hard earned money for this sort of thing. And convincing someone that they were taken sucks too.

Thanks yall for your help. I was given this knife as a gift from my godfather which he obtained at a gun show. He is not really into knives and when he gave it to me alarm bells weny off. inspecting the knife i detected many abnormaliries but needed the opinions and help that this forum has given me.

it's a genuine red mainland fabrication of a bogus non-existent spyderco design
but wait!
i spot a single flliper thumb guard on the top.
so is it with a spring "assisted opening" ?

Kinda like trying to pass this off as a Ferrari Testarossa... ummmm... no.
