Fake XM-18?

I'm not saying that a real hinderer isn't worth the money but in general as the quality of the knife increases the price increases at a quicker rate. If you were to graph price and quality it would look something like an exponential curve. a $100 ZT may be 10 times better in quality than a $10 china special but an $800 hinderer isn't 8 times better in quality than a $100 ZT.

This is my opinion.

That's not your opinion, that's called the law of diminishing returns.

Yeah, you took a freshman level microeconomics course. bully for you. :) Still opinion though unless you have any data to back it up.

The fake hinderers don't look like a good deal to me anymore. It's a $100 knife but is it really made out of D2? more likely it's 8cr13mov or some other cheap chinese steel (i have nothing against 8cr13mov or chinese steel in general but i wouldn't pay $100 for it). And is it really made out of titanium? The way i see it you're paying for the looks alone because you could buy an enlan/SRM for $15 that probably has the same build quality.

Not sure if they are D2, but is definitely something higher end than 8cr, they also have fakes in $200 range that supposedly use S30v. Yes it is real titanium and I can tell you they have many times better build quality than Enlan/SRM.
Some are not that close to the originals for someone who has had the real deal, but some are near in terms of looks to the originals, the closest fake I think is the regular Sebenza clone detailed in this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/925712-Pictures-of-fake-Large-Regular-Sebenza

For example I have a Regular Sebenza fake, and I find it on the same level in terms of FF to that of knives in the $200 range, somewhat similar in finish levels my 0551 but leaps ahead of the 2 HEST 2.0s I have owned.

I believe that the lockside, liner, and pocket clip are all Ti on the one I have. I checked with a magnet and did a small heat test on the liner and the inside of the lockside. I highly doubt that the steel is D2. I will say that I have used the knife and that I've resharpened it. It takes a nice smooth shaving edge, but definitely needed to be touched up on the strops about two times during a week of use. Not bad actually. Personally, I think it's 440-C. Unfortunately, the fit and finish on these are pretty darn good, but if you know what you're looking for you should be able to spot a fake quite easily. They are solid if you want a user knife, but don't want to destroy your real XM-18.

(( not a Bladeforums paid Dealer -- do not post a link )) has about 400k fake knives... "XM-18s" for 90 bucks, and just about every other fake you can think of...

i've never bought one, and i won't because $90 is WAY too much to spend for a $7 gas station knock off

someone who owns the real thing and has a hundred bucks to burn would be doing the rest of us a favor by buying one, and showing us all the reason why this cheap knockoff can't possibly compare to the handmade craftsmanship of the real thing

All rules apply site-wide.

Fakes/Homages: As fakes and homage items are a legal gray area and obviously hurt the hobby, no fake or homage items may be sold on the Exchange. Members may not knowingly sell unlicensed knockoffs or counterfeit versions of knives (or any other goods) based upon the designs of their legitimate owner, manufacturer or custom maker. Additionally, members may not sell any knife or item known or suspected to be other than as described in terms of its lineage and authenticity.
