Fake ZT?

I bought this knife from a friend that likes knives. Gave him $30.

I just took it apart and I'm sure it's fake. At least from what I can see online. I've never had or held a ZT.

The blade has no bearings - the bearings run on the scales. Is that normal?

It feels good in the hand, and it's heavy... but anyways, I have no idea.

Take a magnet to the scales, if they are not magnetic then they are titanium and it should be authentic. The bearings are the correct style for this blade. The washer goes into the frame between the bearings and blade.

Well, buying from a friend, id hope said friend would be honest with you. If not, id reconsider calling said friend such.

Go look at some of the pics here, it looks legit comparing yours to some in the thread. You probably have an earlier model which is why yours have the steel caged bearings. It also looks like the carbon fiber slab was replaced with a Ti slab. That’s not unusual at all. Maybe, the bearings were put in wrong at that time.
Thread 'Kershaw/ZT Picture Thread!!! Let's See Em'!'

Looks like Dadpool Dadpool hit the nail on the head, I stand corrected.

AFAIK that's as fake as the day is long.

The pivot screws are wrong, the scales lack the second chamfer, the scale jimping is all wrong -- there are a million things off about this one apart from a $300 knife costing $30.

Well my buddy is not a knife collector. He just had it and I offered to buy it. He's not interested in knives.

Interesting that some of you think it might be an older model. I assume it is so, because he didn't even know since when he's had it.

I compared it to recent ones, and I know it looks different to how they're made nowdays.

This is my 0562cf to compare. Couple things that make me wonder. First, friend or not, the 0562 new is a $250-$280 knife. Even a friend selling it for $30 should make you question it. Second, 20cv is extremely resistant to rust. Mine has gone through sweat and sea spray without a hint of rust. The OP knofe has a lot of rust for this steel.

Also mine does not have any washers what so ever and on of those looks like this has 2. Should have 2 KVT bearings and no washers.

I agree on the rust question. I have a Kershaw Link in 20CV and it's like brand new.

This one has rust spots.

Well a 0562CF should have one stainless liner with a Carbon Fiber (cf) scale. I guess this could have had a blade swap for some reason. The 0562 had titanium scales.

I don't know enough about that ZT model. But I am confused on why someone who isn't interested in a knife would have purchased that for a few hundred in the first place.

For 30 bucks? Not sure any of this adds up.

There's a big difference in these statements.

While there are many places to get a legit ZT, there are also a lot of places to get fakes. I can't see the OP"s images so I can't say; but it makes more sense that somebody that isn't interested in knives wouldn't pay the money for the real thing.
I'm not sure how much value the magnet test has in determining whether it's a ZT.

I'm sure it's fake.
You paid for a fake, and you think you got a fake - that makes sense to me.

Well I reassembled it again.

From what I can learn about ZTs, the knife probably had a carbon scale that was changed for a Titanium one.

Also the main Pivot screws were changed, because in the photos I can find those screws are not black.

Feels great in the hand. Removed the rust in just a couple of minutes with 2000 grit sandpaper.

I took my 0562 apart to add some more comparison shots here. The lock bar insert is also a different size and shape which really doesn't mean much. They could change minor details along the way in the evolution of a knife but different enough to point out. I still go backto the blade being rusted for 20CV and mine still doesn't have washers at all. So unless ZT and Kershaw screwed me over and mine is in fact a fake 🤔. FWIW mine is exactly 1 year old today.

Without knowing the exact model of 0562, I can still say that Yours looks real to me. AFAIK the only time ZT uses washers on top of bearings is to prevent the bearings from riding on CF (like the 0452CF). The 0562CF (and the original G10) has a steel liner. Also, these blue bearings are the older style, all my older ZTs have them, where some of the newer ones (0609 etc) use the gold bearings.
Edit: another difference I see…. Yours has a cut-out for the bearings to sit in the blade. The OPs fake one does not.
Btw sorry you got a fake one OP :-/

It would have to have been some kind of Frankenknife since someone replaced it with another titanium scale. Watch this disassembly video for the ZT0562ti.

- Different bearings
- Different lockbar insert shape
- Different stop pin
- 20CV is highly rust resistant
