Fake!?!

I went to the gun show in bloomington, Il this weekend and after a lot of decision making i decided to pick myself up a Bradley Alias 2. Im quite new to knives so i assumed the knife was real and that the vendor was legit, honestly i did not even think it could be a possibility that the knife may be fake until i started researching and watching videos on said blade. My knife says "Prototype May 2005" so that could be the cause of all the confusion, however i was not able to find any information on this aspect of the knife, except for that fact that that was the year the knife was produced. My knife also differs in that it does not read "USA" anywhere on the blade and secondly it does not have the option to carry ether tip up or tip down like other versions my is only configured for tip down (it does not have the holes for a tip up configuration).

I was wondering what you guy thought? (http://imgur.com/a/1zLXU PICS!) do any of you bradley fans think this is fishy? any advice?

Thanks!

Al

I doubt it.

The Alias was made by Benchmade and there really isn't anything all that special about the knife to warrant a fake....if by fake you mean a knock-off....

However, without pictures, nobody can really help you very much.

As far as I know they didnt make fake alias knives. Both alias I and II came out at the same time for two size options. As a proto it can often differ from the regular production run. The alias series was created as a cheaper alternative to the sebenza and didnt really become popular enough to warrant a copy. If they do exist I have never seen them. And I have seen more clones than most.

What are you even taking about? It has to be unique to be counterfeited? I think it has more to do with what they can make a buck off of. They are even counterfeiting the Ontario Rat folder series these days and that is a cheap knife to begin with.

From BF, April, 2007: "FS: Bradley Alias I Prototype

This is a new, unused Benchmade-made Bradley Cutlery large Alias. This one is marked prototype May 2005. S30V steel, quite sharp. Not sure how many of these were marked as prototypes."

Another forum, JUly, 2005:
"Next up is a uber cool large Bradley cutlery framelock, pimped by Matt Cucchiara.

"3.5" S30V Stone washed blade, prototype May 2005. Bought at Blade 2005. Bronze phosphor washers. Ultra slick, smooth and shaving sharp. Zero bladeplay, zero sharp edges other than the blade edge, perfectly centered and lock-up is nothing short of bank vault. Great little details - radiused all around, thumb serrations, thumb grooves on the lock-bar. 1/8" blade stock, every even grinds. Blade detent is superb. No visible scratches or marks."

All the research aside, if the quality of the knife you got is excellent, then the probability of it being a counterfeit is near zero. I take it you're satisfied with the quality, that there aren't any grind, fit, or finish issues. Then it's almost certainly genuine.

Thats a very good point!

BM often labels their prototypes. From the photos it looks real to me. I've had a few and it looks spot on. Hope you got a good price on it. It' a nice EDC.

I paid $140, which if the knife turn out to be real, i believe is a steal!

Buy a membership and maybe foiks can respond about the price. I'm glad that you like it though, it's a solid knife!

I think you need a gold membership or something to talk about price of a knife you have. Otherwise the mods get upset that you might be trying to sell the knife without having paid the membership fee. I don't agree with it because sometimes it seems heavyhanded and silly, but that's their rule. (Check out the rules.)

bradley alias owner chiming in....that's not a fake. Good score. Relax man.
