I have been looking at the S1 for a while now based on reviews of the guys on here that own one. I also have been wanting to check out a comparible Bark River product for a general 4-5 inch SS field knife. I have an RC/RAT3 for the smaller stuff that I like, But when I see pictures of batoning and feildcraft,:o I wonder which Barkie would be best as an alternate to the S1.Thanks.

Hmmm, Bravo2?
A lot of them have fairly thick spines, and made of tough convexed tool steel so performance should be pretty similar. The thing is there is so much selection for handle material and blade profile, barkies can really fill your preference.
2 of my favourite bushcraft blades are my fox river and the Canadian special, the aurora is also highly favoured among the crowd here.

The Fox River is looking real good, also the Highlander from reading the other posts.

I've got about 40 knives and my Fox River is definitely in my top 3 favorite.

I've got a fox river and an F1. To be honest, I would be hard pushed to choose between them for most uses. They are equally excellent knives with, to me, similar enough uses that either would do quite nicely.

The only reason I would definitely go with one over the other is if I wanted stainless and a rubber handle in cold weather.

I've just realised that the OP's question was about the S1, not the F1. Sorry. I would guess the similarity could go that way as well though. The S1 is 5", Fox River 4.25" and F1 3.8". So the Fox River sits right in the middle!

My guess would be that the Bravo-1 would be more an equal match to the S1, but not having either I can't really say.

I always though the Sandstorm would make an awesome 5" knife as are the new Manitou carvers and fox river magnum.

I have barkies and falkies...All depends on style... Ilove the fallknivens more.. Personally, but the barkies have a more trad look to them

I love my Fox River. It is my go-to knife for almost everything (except things like brushing my teeth and other non-knifey kind of things)

If you have biggish hands the fallknivens are a bit harder to hold. I had to wrap my F1 handle completely in 550 cord to get it comfy.
Barkies usually have palm swells and contours and are super comfortable, a huge criteria for me.

I think the Bravo-1 and Aurora are the pics of the Barkie line up. They will serve you well. The S1 is a great knife. I love their laminate VG-10. Generally I do not care for stainless steels but their VG-10 is just has a great combo of ease of sharpening and edge retention.

Aurora!
