Seems like the U2 has harder steel SGPS laminate blade 64Rc.

But it is finger nick and lock back Vs the BM's thumb hole and axis lock w/154CM (newer 555 mini griptilian).

What do you think ?

Or should I just go for a Falkniven F1BLS VG-10 laminate SS fixed blade

Thanks.

I'm getting a u2 in a little while a like the look of laminated steel, the idea of having one of the cutting edge new power steals is appealing to I'm thinking of getting a custom whether she for about $35 for belt carry. However I have a decent collection of knives, and having e-mail Nick folder as a gentleman's knife is a nice addition to my collection.on the other side you have bench made. Not my favorite brand if I can gently lead you into the spyderco arena I would be more happy bench maids are well constructed knives. However, they tend to be a little bit thick and with a rather steep edge profile my experience doesn't allow it very keen edge the only bench made I have which is a pinnacle. I had to entirely re-profile the edge to a sharper angle before I was happy with it.just my oh so humble opinion

finally if this is going to be your only knife. I would say anything with a pocket clip and one hand opening would be a better introduction to the modern knife market.

U2 is defenetly winner for me. In this size category steel is on the first place and SGPS is better then ATS-34. Lock mechanism and how to open knife is not critical for small gentleman knives IMHO.

Thanks, Vassili.

I dunno, the knives are so different.

Mini grip gives you an extra 3/8" of blade for the same handle length, with one handed opening and a clip. Same blade stock thickness, but the grip handle is thicker, with partial liners. U2 handle won't keep your hand from sliding forward. I'd guess the Axis is stronger than the U2 lockback.

U2 is a smaller package, other than handle length. Full height grind with the SGPS steel I guess could give better cutting performance. It's cheaper than the mini grip. Both are under 3" blades, but the U2 should get by with far less scrutiny. Either way, really just depends on what you're going to do with the knife. I'd say U2 in white collar situations, mini grip otherwise.

for a little bit more (86 i think on clearance for 154cm model at gpk) u may want to also consider the BM 707. I got a yellow mini-grip and a the 707 Sequel and i love both.

I have EDCed (I think I can say that) the Mini Grip for about two years, and do not have a single complaint whatsoever (I have complaints about almost every other knife I own). The Grip is an awsome EDC, because it was designed to EDC. The handle ergos are perfect, the blade shape on my 555 was great with excelent tip strength. Don't buy a knife for the steel, buy it because you like it. My mini grip was 440C, and held a 20 deg edge under a lot of stress. I sharpen my knives when they're still sharp, therefore all I ever have to do is a couple of passes on fine ceramic, and done. Get the Griptilian, it has a pocket clip, one handed opening, a superior handle, and of course the axis lock.

Get the U2 or anything else from Fallkniven. I have 2 of the U2's and that 64Rc just does not seem to ever get dull. I carry one in my watch pocket of my jeans with a lanyard to grab it with. So its a nick, only takes a second to open it and you won't be fighting any bears bad guys with it.
They are really great little knives as is all the Fallkniven products. I have 2 F1 VG-10's, 1 F1GM laminated, 1 A1, 1 A2, and a bunch more that I can't remember right now.

Go with Fallkniven

OK, ordered a Falkniven U2.
Thought of the Tre Kronnor (U2 equivalent) model for twice as much, but just could not justify a nail nick for that price.

Hey maybe if I like it enough, I might return it for an upgrade or get another one ; )

Will keep you all posted.

Thanks again, folks.

U2 will like a U2...sorry, couldn't resist ;)

It's been my daily carry for a while now, excellent knife and amazingly sharp!
It's not one for cutting bolts in half but if you have something that needs to
be split, like a hair, this little knife will more than do the job!

Here's an edge view, just to show just how thin an edge this has!

for the larger jobs/cuts I also carry in the front pocket a BM 610 Rukus
now that's a knife

and for the Rukus, you can see this is a BIT larger folder, here is also an edge view, it comes way down
to a very very thin edge that cuts well too!

On the first picture you may notice that blade is laminated - SGPS core visible. And it is japanese lamination, when sides are thicker then core. Scandinavian stile - core is thicker then sides.

Thanks, Vassili.

As I understand it, Fallkniven makes no knives, only designs them and has them
made to their specs, so your comment bears that out in regards to the laminations shown.

While the knife has no markings indicating Japan, I do believe it was made there.

But I'll tell ya though, this is ONE sharp rascal!! :)

It is not a secret that all Fallkniven knives are made in Japan and probably by Hattory. I should check box, I think it was somthing about made in Seki, Japan there.

Thanks, Vassili.

Hi,
The Falkniven U2 came in today.

Getting used to 2-handed Open & Close. But it is smooth. Also the textured Zytel feels slippery to me.
Box says Rc is 64. Really sharp knife. Nice firm confident locking click. The finish of the nut has one side with rough edges.

As you can see, the closed profile is not fluid/un-interrupted/smooth like a Mnandi since the corner of the U2 closed blade is showing. WHK also has similar "flaw" and I think I am just being spoiled by CRK's smoother closed profile.

It is in between the size and weight of a CRK Mnandi and Micarta Small Seb.

Just to get a feel of what it is in terms of size with WHK and CRKs

The U2 is probably one of the sharpest out of the box blades you'll ever find. It compares very well with ZDP 189 in laminated or unlaminated.

The Mini Grip to me is more usefull in the M2 ( ritter) and D2 (callabera ? spelling), It is available in 440C and 154 CM also which are very usefull and well made also. ( I have the set)

I have all, including the U2. Which would I pick if I could only have 1? The M2 mini grip. To me it's more usefull, easier to open and close, has better ergonomics and I have confidence in M2 that goes back 10 years. The U2 does come sharper by quite a bit though. Joe

Apples and oranges. The U2 is a very good getleman's knife, but more cumbersome to use, since it lacks pocketclip and can't be opened with one hand. SGPS steel is very hard and stays sharp longer than 154CM, but the latter steel is still very good. If I had to chose between the two, the clear winner would be the BM.
