Falkniven U2 or Benchmade Purdue Mini Griptilian 555 ?

Also the textured Zytel feels slippery to me.

Yea, it is a bit slippery. I took a triangular file and did my own jimping job on the handle. I made a series of cuts across the handle for about 3/4 to 1 inch so that my index finger is in contact with them. I angled the file so that the jimping graps my finger. It really makes a difference.

:)

Definitely could not live with a slippery grip. Since I'd rather not mod as plowboy does...I guess it's the BM for me.

i guess i'll toss my praise in for my u2 too

design is sexy in a simple/utilitarian kind of way, blade fit and lockup is perfect, blade is gorgeous/sharp/nice EDC size, and extremely sheeple friendly. this is my EDC anytime i'm with the gf's parents or am traveling.

my other favorite EDC is a bm 705-401, but my U2 gets just as much carry, especially when i don't want to worry about how people are going to respond to me pulling out a knife.

Just to get a feel of what it is in terms of size with WHK and CRKs

What is the middle knife here, just below the Mnandi?

Jeff

That'd be a William Henry Monarch with ZDP-189 laminated blade and desert ironwood scales, very sleek and sharp folder!

Well, a knife for me is to cut, not open and close as quick as I can, so I'd go with a U2 as well. Superior blade geometry and steel. With a knife this small, it's not bother to pocket it anyways.

Very attractive knife! I've been considering a Mnandi, but I have extra-large glove-sized hands, and the handle profile on the Mnandi looks like it'd be a little small (thin) for my hands. Your hand size and experience with the Mnandi size-wise?

Yes, G2 got it on the dot...
WHK Monarch, Desert Ironwood, ZDP189, Citrine thumb & Button studs, sterling bail.

I LOVE this knife. It has gone through a lot of stuff (paper to plastic packaging). It still cuts like a razor without sharpening.

It is thin and light. I love the wood-- a lot of burl under better sunlight.

My hand is a medium ladies for 5' person.
The Mnandi has skinnier handles. Not noticeable. But the ergonomics of Monarch is more user-friendly to a variety of hand sizes.

BUT the Mnandi felt really solid.
Oh the washer is teflon on the WHK and brass (?) on the Mnandi. Not sure if this is a big deal for you though.

Can you make a picture of that W&H Legacy knife? Which has ZDP-189 and CF scales. Especially in closedand half closed position. I read thet it has no lock, and has tang extention instead - just like to see how this tang extention looks in closed position.

Is it comfortable to use it without normal locking mechanism?

Thanks, Vassili.

Vassili, I don't think anyone mentioned the Legacy folder in this thread so
I don't know that anyone listed actually has one to show an image of?
But, maybe someone watching may join in with a couple of nice shots of
theirs?

Do I need anything special to sharpen SGPS? Will a standard Sharpmaker do the trick?

This is the last one at the bottom of the picture you quoted.

Thanks, Vassili.

Hmm, I don't think that is a legacy, as it has a thumbstud, you can
barely make out the knife, the legacy knives use the flipper deal
to open them, at least the ones seen...my guess is it is an older T10 Lancet model? but hard
to tell from the photo...

try this link to Plaza Cutlerly for some of their images;

Cropping out and brightening it up a WHOLE lot, here is that bottom knife;

Steve, I think a sharp maker will keep that sharp for you, I use the
Spyderco Profile ceramics and a strop but have only touched up this
one since getting it from a fellow forum member and while it was still
quite sharp, it is now, amazingly sharp :)

My mistake - sorry. Thanks for the pictures!

Vassili.

No problem sir, but, I just saw this thread and the fellow there has some of those friction folders, you may want to see if he will take a few shots more?

The last one is an older model T10CF
Carbon fibre scales, liner lock. Very light and sharp ATS34.

Blade Knife of the year for 1999 Blade Magazine American Made Knife of the Year:
http://www.williamhenryknives.com/press-awards/awards.html

I do not care for the thumb stud since it is very harsh/abrasive on my thumb.

BTW, I got 2 with different pivot screw, one with the official 1999 screw as shown in the link.

The other one is the user that I photographed, the newer radial screw. (the bottom one in the photo)

Nice shot there, didn't know they changed pivots along the way!

I remember you were thinking of selling the top two above?
There may be someone interested, I know they are a bit high in dollar
value, but very nice looking gents/ladies folders there with the sterling
silver inlays, very nice. I'll email you about what you wanted for them
and see if my friend was still interested.

Can only find this:

Not exactly a closed photo, but you get the idea since it is 1/2 closed.

I tried it at B&M.
When closed, there is about 1/2" of metal tang sticking out. It has filed spine--very nice work. The plain balde is very affordable. THe damascus is a killer in looks.

But I do not like it because the extended tang will rest in a groove in the handle when open. The thumb will act as a lock/stopper on top of the extended tang to stop the blade from closing.

The reason is I think the extended part is too short and I felt like I really had to hold my hand closer to the blade than I would liek to so that the thumb can be on the extended tang part.

Since it opens really slick, it is easy to open without much resistence. It does not even have a slcik snap as in a slip joint. So to me I do not feel that it is a safe knife as a newbie. My $0.02
