Man o man, when I think of the fall, do I think of fire making. Not only with the wildfires that are happening right now, but the dead dried out cottony and woody materials that are available.
Next time you are outside, even around the house, take a look at how the weeds look. Especially out in fields and meadows. Its amazing how much stuff is out there during this time of year.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow, but throw 'em up if you have 'em!

No photos yet but I was surprised how well the dry grass took a spark. Even went up when it was slightly damp.

I need to harvest some Foxtail while it is cold and dry out. I keep seeing a patch of Milkweed on my way home from work but it's at a bad place to stop. Same for Cattails. It'll get rainy and wet again and a lot of the stuff goes away. Foxtail hangs on and generally stays off the ground. It sticks up out of he snow and I make note of where I saw it so I know where to go back and get some when I need it. You can only carry so much........

I was thinking the same thing on my last hike. Everywhere I looked there was excellent tinder. I tried this from an old decayed log
