If you google the Nez Perce River, Darby Montana and follow the Nez Perce Road from the West Fork of the Bitterroot and go to just before the Pavement ends you are can preview a great time..... This is one of the most scenic places I have ever been and we should have a grand time..... Nights will be chilly and the days warmish... Great campfire weather and and a fine time for all..... We will be 40 minutes away from gas, tobacco and snacks. Bring stuff for the communal breakfast and lunches and snacks.... I will provide dinner Friday and Saturday......More to come as things get closer.... e

Dang...

That is only an 11 hour drive for me. If it wasn't smack in the middle of archery hunting season, I might give it more consideration.

Something for me to dwell on a bit.

I never have been to one of the Beckerhead Rendezvous. September is a busy time for me this year. From around Stanley, Idaho, where I live it is less than 4 hours away. Add another hour and a bit it going up the W. F. of Bitterroot River would be about a 5 hour drive to the Nez Perce Fork for me.

hmmmmm.......
22 hours driving, 4 tanks of gas, and the chance to drive through 3 states I've never been to.

Having just recently visited the site, I can attest to its extraordinary attributes. The place is simply awesome. For those having difficulty figuring Uncle E's somewhat cryptic directions, look around here: https://www.google.com/maps/dir//45...4,-114.3238502,440m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!4m1!3e0

The nearest airport to fly into is Missoula International Airport (MSO), Montana. From there it's about a 2 hour drive south through some truly beautiful country. Both Hamilton (larger and about 1 hour) and Darby (about 40 minutes) have grocery markets, etc right on the highway to pick up supplies if you are flying in. In the past for similar events where I have flown in, I have taken an empty cooler with a cinch strap around it as checked baggage, which makes it easy to fill up when there.

Unfortunately, it's the same weekend as the ICCE in Kansas City, so I won't be able to make it.

Take lots of photos and video!

Enjoy!

well, if I can't get my vacation request approved, at least I have a good fallback option to go hang out with Doug!

Vic....Great news that you will try to make it!......

BTW I checked with friend Charles and fishing is ok and the Nez Perce is loaded with Cut Throat trout. CHECK THE Montana Fish and Game site for details.... e

checked the long range forecast -- supposed to be sunny & 70 during the day and 40 at night that weekend.
perfect hammock weather!

Wow! This sounds amazing. I have a bunch of stuff already committed to in September including some medical procedures so we will just have to see. Everyone please have a blast!

Hey Colonel....

I do hope you can make it as ;that would mean a good out come with the Doctors..... Also, it has been too long since we broke bread together....Please say hi to your lovely wife and of course, Psyop and his clan of the tribe.... E

If I hadn't just started this new job I would be seeing what I could do to make it. Would have probably had to fly which makes things tough, but I'm sure it would be worth it!

Missoula, Mt airport is only 2 hours drive - round trip flights from United or Delta are under $500.......

In the past for similar events where I have flown in, I have taken an empty cooler with a cinch strap around it as checked baggage, which makes it easy to fill up when there.

So, Sue just reminded me that not everyone does 100K miles a year and so have to often pay for luggage. In which case. pack the cooler with your stuff and include a lightweight duffel. Just a thought.

One other thing.... if you are coming by plane.... If you ship your gear ups to yourself at the ranch it will be waiting for you at the site when you get there..... I have from time to time dropped by Wally World for a cheap tent and cheap sleeping bag and mat.... or bring a hammock(low Bulk and weight) and spring for the bag and mat....make that 30 bucks a night????? ....

It will be chilly at night and delightful by day.....We have a cook shack, showers and running water that has to be drunk to be appreciated...... An interesting data point-there is no place in Montana that has to treat it’s water....better than sody pop.....

I will be back at the ranch early next week and will go on a photo Safari and post up some post card shots....

I have a provisional "maybe" from the boss and permission from SWMBO.
trying to get on my mechanic's schedule so I have roadworthy wheels, which is the other thing making this unsure so far.
