I'm sorry this is short notice but if anyone is interested in a weekend canoe camping trip this weekend, feel free to E-mail me and I'll fill you in on all the details. There are 12 of us going from assorted forums and we are going to have a hell of a time. Just some details

-Leave Saturday morning near Long Pond in the Lakes Region
-There will be a 1/4 mile portage over uneven terrain to the put in.
-Canoes are necessary to get to the back country site.
-We will be camping from Saturday to Monday morning.
-Anyone is welcome but must provide their own gear.

Many of us on the trip will be going light and placing emphasis on bushcrafting and primitive living skills. Marty and Aggie Simon of the Wilderness Learning Center are the folks behind this trip and I'm just putting it out on this forum in case anyone wants to learn some new skills. We're here to have fun and will certainly do that on this trip.

I'll post pictures once we all return. Temps should be in the high 40's to 50's in the day with lows in the 20's. Come and practice skills and maybe learn a new one or two.

Let me know estela_usa@sbcglobal.net

That brings back fond memories of a weeklong trip through the Fulton Chain of lakes many years ago. The highlight was to be in the middle of a large lake with no light pollution and just drift as we watched an incredible display of northern lights !!...Enjoy you're trip !

Sounds like alot of fun,,,, great country up there as well... I'll be camping up in harriman state park the weekend of the 16th Wife'd scalp me if I tried for another weekend back to back... Have a blast take lot's of pics.

Scott,

I'll see you in January on the winter camping trip. We'll miss you and your blades this weekend. I'll be sure to bring that Tusker with me once I get it back from Greg. Your PSK Jr. will be with me on this trip too.

Sounds like a good trip. When I was growing up in upstate NY, we used to go on canoeing trips - starting at Old Forge, through the Fulton Chain, through Raquette Lake, Forked Lake, and Long Lake, and coming out on the Raquette River. We did that route a couple times. Lots of fond memories.

Don't forget it's deer season , venison steaks over the fire are surely bushcraft / wilderness survival skills

How was your trip? Did you camp on long pond? I live in the park and paddle in the SRCA all the time. I like fish pond...but there all nice. Do you get up this way often?

The trip was excellent. The weather was cold and my bag was somewhat cold so I heated up some rocks, put them in wool and brought them in with me. Uncomfortable sleep but not cold.

Overall, it was excellent with perfect weather. Company was awesome and the food tasted great. I'll have pics soon.

We (WLC) go to that area pretty frequently. It is part of the reunion trip in the spring and also the fall canoe trips. We'll be in the Catskills come January for a winter trip. You should come.

More to come later.

I would have loved to met up with you...Sat is tough to get off...I have Sun-mon off. Sometimes Tues and Weds also. Would be great to meet some like minded people.

Here are some pictures from this past weekend's canoe camping trip on Long Pond in the Adirondacks. Weather was nice except for a brief period of high winds Saturday night followed by a low of 11 degrees that night. Food was excellent, loons were calling out and all together a great time. Pictures courtesy of the Simons.

Excellent! Looks like a good time was had by all! And I like the fact that someone brought that venerable old Coleman canoe too. They couldn't beg, borrow or steal a decent review from the canoe mags at the time, but they were great canoes for only a little money. Bought my first one in 1977 and used it for years on all kinds of water with no problems whatsoever.
