Fall Creek Falls SP

The water levels are much reduced in the summer and fall. They are all freestone streams and subject to essentially runoff from rainfall or delayed runoff from seepage. You picked a great time to visit Falls Creek Falls SP and the Cumberland Plateau in general.

At Fall Creek Falls, I went into the park office and signed up for a walkin site, and they gave me a number to put on a board with clips to "claim" my site. Again, I was the only one using the campground, but I imagine if they're full, you're just out of luck. I didn't do either of the overnight loops, so don't know how their backcountry system works.

Good to hear; hopefully there will still be enough precip feeding the creeks/rivers in a few weeks...we're going to shoot for 11-14 April and try to hit the back-country trails. My wife is still training for her AT section in May, so this will be a good practice run.

I was at Falls Creek SP for their wildflower weekend just past and the water levels are great. I hiked the Woodland trail on the "opposite" side of Caney Creek Falls. Nice little walk but not many views of the falls. I was mostly there to photograph wild flowers which I did and then I hit the typical views of the various waterfalls mostly by car.

Owen, your shot of Rocky Point is about as good as I have ever seen. The snow made the shot. I took a photo there and it was just so so. That last step is "quite" a step when going to Rocky Point. I had visions of that Louisville basketball player with the totally broken leg just from jumping and landing.

I went to another interesting place called "Short Springs Natural Area" near Tullahoma TN. It is a very nice place with several waterfalls, gobs of wild flowers, and terrain that varies from a dry oak woods to wet valleys and slopes along the streams. It is about 1 mile from end to end; not a huge place, but well maintained and nice. No camping or anthing. No formal picnic areas either; just woods, streams, and trails.

You always have the most awesome trips, thanks for sharing it with us. This looks like it was a particularly excellent one. Great pics, as always.

Glad you made it down the frozen rocks safely. I kinda thought there looked like there was a safer route on the right of that picture (your left if going down), always harder to see without the perspective though. Sometimes the opposite is true, things look a lot sketchier until you're actually on it.
