Thanks! It's a pattern called "Chexx". (Cute play on XX.) I think it was only available 2005/2006. It's supposed to be a black and red checkerboard like the one in this photo (taken from the internet):

I don't know what happened to the black in mine (I got it used) but I like it much better than the black and red pattern. I've looked at other mini copperheads but it's the only one I've actually been interested in carrying – the sides are flat, with just the shallow Chexx pattern (laser cut) to give good grip. Very comfortable.

Yes, the mini copperhead I have was made by Case in 1996. The shield is not one I associate with Case but I'm glad they choose use it, IMO it fits the overall design well. That's one of the reason I had to have it.
As a small knife, mini-copperheads excel and if one has nice bone like yours does, all the better.
