Fallkniven 3G Steel? Worth it or Not?

After reading the overwhelming number of positive comments (and very few negative) about the Fallkniven F1, I've decided to get one, as well as a WM-1 for small game cleaning. I see they now offer these in the new 3G steel as well as the original laminated VG-10 steel. However, they are horrendously expensive in 3G! Is there anything to be gained by sucking it up and paying the big bucks, or should I just get the original models? Thanks, Paul.

I'm a huge F1 fan, and use it extensively for hunting/game cleaning.. the 3G will hold it edge 2x longer, however if you do dull it, it will also take 2x longer to sharpen, bone is destructive to ANY blade steel, if your proficient at sharpening, then the 3G isn't bad, but at the same time the VG10 would probably hold it's edge long enough for you, it's a very common question, that actually is a hard decision, the best way I can answer your question is, if you plan on keepin it, and know how to maintain an edge, then yes it's worth it.

Sorry, I found some previous posts on this subject and came to the conclusion that the original steel is more than sufficient for my needs, especially since it appears to be easier to resharpen (I am sharpening challenged!). I went ahead and ordered an F1 and WM-1 today. Looking forward to seeing for myself what everyone else seems to know about Fallkniven knives! Thanks, Paul.

To me the 3G [SGPS] is worth it . Sharpening it is no big deal , an occassional touch up with a 1200 grit diamond is all you need ! Yes I do my knives freehand !!
