Fallkniven A1 or Ontario RAT 5

How sick is that ? VERY !!!!

Take a big breath and get them scratched...then enjoy them, you will never look back !!!!

Yup. Sick, and twisted.:)

Haha, I think I will start my collection with the A1 and rat 3. My brother in law has a knife cache in his closet, and I would like the same thing. I'll be buying those two first. Thanks for all the help. I'm looking forward to the day when I can outfit Puerto Rico's military. :cool:

EDIT: (Do they have a military or does the US just protect them since it is their territory?)

A country always have an army on their land, their own or someone elses. In other words, If a country doesnt already have the US army based there they will soon have or already have but the country doesnt know :) Hey, the OSS even had bases in Sweden during the war.

Good luck with your knife. You could even outfit the Swedish army soon, they are selling off everything for surplus and hoping that Putin stays a nice guy.

You can't really go wrong buying either one. I couldn't decide either, so I
ended up buying a bunch:

Rat-7 - 1095
Rat-7 - D2
Rat-5 - 1095
Tak-1 - 1095
Tak-1 - D2
Fallkniven S1, A1 and F1

I like them all so much that I can't bring myself to use them. I don't
want to scratch the blades. How sick is that ?
:eek:

hahahahaha!!!

shit i kinda do understand ur problem tho :D

I have one last request and dont know where to put it... So this seems like a good place.

I have noticed a lot of abbreviations for knife companies, knives, names I dont know, and stuff I dont know just in this Wilderness & Survival Skills section. Would it be possible for someone to organize them all and make a "guide" and get it sticky? I think it would really help all the new guys.

A large task indeed. I would do it, but I dont know half of them. Well, thanks.

I can give you some of the most common ones:

Knives
FK = Fallkniven
CRKT = Columbia River
BR = Bark River
CS = Cold Steel
SAK = Swiss Army Knife
RAT = Ontario knives
Other stuff
FAK = First Aid Kit

LMAO....this gets used a lot here !!!:D

You want to give the Busse forum a look, I haven't got a clue what the abbreviations mean over there !!!!!:eek:

I can only speak for the A1's little brother the S1 forest knife which is the same design but 2" shorter. Its an amazing knife for the money especially with the zytel sheath. Its light, takes an edge fast, holds it well, and is about the closest to a "perfect" all around blade that I've found yet.

You and Sookie are right it's a sickness. I definitely have to start using these
my knives a lot more.

I've just picked up my A1 from the sorting office. I needn't have worried about the handle size; it's perfect.

Can't wait to get out and use this. Looks like it could take a serious beating. And with the hard frost we had this morning, the rubber handle is quite appropriate!

But is it the BEST knife ?

.

Could you describe what a "the best knife" is? What conditions/design must it comply to, to be a "best knife" ?
Not to be a smart @ss, just wondering what you think is the best knife.

Thanks,
CZ

For the more disaster/apocalypse minded around here, there are:

PSK (Personal Srvival Kit)
BOB (Bug Out Bag)
SHTF (Sh*t Hits The Fan)
EOTWAWKT (End Of The World As We Know It)

If you have an A1, you'll want an F1. The RAT's will cut stuff, but the Fallkniven's are well made, sharp and tough. A RAT just looks like a garden tool sitting next to a Fallkniven-- I've owned both.

If you have an A1, you'll want an F1.

That's what I'm thinking right now. New A1, had it less than a day. Why is one more knife never enough???

Actually, I'm thinking of the TK2 - want to try that 3G steel.

I also now need an A2, because... Oh hell, What can I say? I love knives and the outdoors, that's why I'm here!

I put my rat7 through its paces this weekend battoning through knotty seasoned wood. The Rat 7 is made of 1095 and the Rat 5 1095 also. Of course, I have not personally handled the F1. So I can't judge it and say not to get one. I see the real benefit of the F1 is that you won't have to worry about rust as much. The Rat5 is 1095 and if you don't take care of it(oil it). It will develope rust on the blade. I suggest handle both before you go with either one. OR....Just get both and add it to your collection :)
