Mick, Southern Cross, down in Oz sent me this Fallkniven DC-4 sharpening stone back before Christmas. I had it for a few months now and this is my favorite stone. It's ceramic on one side and a diamond stone on the other. It's 4 inches long, 1.25 inches wide, and .25 inches thick. I think it's because it was designed for the VG-10 they use, but it really sharpens carbon steel really quickly. I've used it on O-1, W-1, 1095, 5160, and AUS-8 with great results every time.

This is some dried fatwood that has been sitting around inside for a while and it's about like trying to whittle glass...it's really hard and brittle. Also, I'm exactly the fuzz stick king either...not so great at keeping all of them on the stick sometimes.

But it sure takes a spark nicely and burns very hot!

I know it could be argued that I haven't had the RC-4 long enough to dull it much...if you didn't know me and how much I have used it. But the same cant be said of the other two knives. I got this prototype "Bushlore" knife from Rick (Magnassen) a couple of years ago for my daughter and it is the one she uses when we practice skills. She's done a lot of whittling with it just getting familiar with knife use, and I've done a lot with it back when I was checking out the functionality of a flat grind....it's been "dulled" and sharpened a few times. As I said this fatwood is about as hard as glass.

This pine limb was hard and dry too from laying out in the hot sun for days and has been dead a while.

This is a something with a little higher moisture content...a green hedge limb.

and I've had the Harsey Air Ranger by Gerber for about seven years...it's held up great too by the way.

So far this little stone is by far my favorite.

Thanks for the little write up. I need one of these stones, but have been unable to find one in stock from the usual suspects.(I can find the DC3,not the DC4).

Again, thanks for the teaser pics an stuff.....;);):)

i have actually been looking for a stone... I might have to take a look at this one...
Let me ask you this though... once you have sharpened your knives with this stone, do you need to strop them?

I'm sure stroppers would feel the need to, I'm not one though...never been able to find the supplies to do so here locally and have just never felt the need for it enough to hunt it down. Personally I'm happy with the results of just using the stone.

man do i really want a dc4 where did you get yours... i cant find one anywhere

I got it as a gift from Southern Cross...not sure where he got it though.

Yeah, I really like that Gerber, it's held up really well.

Mistwalker. have two of those DC4's one on my person and another in the kit. It has become my go to sharpener for everything.

I'm seriously thinking about getting another one...if I can find one from what I've read above lol.

Mistwalker, is the ceramic ( lite-brown) part most of the thickness of it ? How does it do for a fine finish on stainless (ie;aus-8, etc.)

Thanks.

hiwa! They produce a VERY fine edge on either stainless or Carbon steels. It produces a finer edge on stainless than anything I've come across.

Yep, the ceramic is the thickest par. Does fine IMO...I'll try post some better pics later today or maybe tomorrow...taken some time when the sun's not so bright.

Thanks fellas. I think I'm gonna spring for one or two of those . Looks great for the bush bag.

I love the DC4. Mine was my go to one that I would take with me to the woods when I went out. Perfect for sharpening my slipjoints. Sadly USPS lost mine in the mail when I sent it home with a few other knives. Haven't ponied up for one yet sadly. I will soon.

Cool idea

I use the DC3 for a field sharpener....Its a nice stone. In retrospect, I wish Id have gotten the DC4 cause the added length would be nice. Im sure Ill end up gettin one though. Hindsight is 20/20...

BTW guys, I got mine from Oregon knife shop....It shipped super fast, and was here in no time flat.

Gotta hate it when they lose your stuff like that!

I have alot of stones, but might have to hunt one of those down for field use.I have a Gerber\Harsey Airframe with Titanium handle and 154CM blade, great knife. They did'nt make very many of those.A friend of mines Sister worked at the Gerber plant here in Oregon and hooked me up for half price of retail. The retail was $240 smackers at that time.It was about 12 years ago,I think.Nice Sis huh!

I've heard a lot good about the Fallkniven stones. What sets them apart? Is their ceramic as good as Spyderco's for instance?. Is their diamond grit a little more aggressive maybe? I've even noticed that it's a challenge sometimes to get their most popular knives from USA dealers.

I would like to see Fallkniven expand their line of sharpening equipment. Because they appear to be a quality company and I'm sure their sharpening equipment is just as good as their cutlery.

Also any websites any of you can recommend so I can learn more about this great company?
