Fallkniven DC4 Sharpening Stone

I love my DC4 too, so I bought two! :) It works really well, I carry one in my "edc" pouch.

It's a great stone, I use it for all my knives and it gets them sharp enough to shave hair off my arm. I mean it's not a super fine grit finishing stone that'll leave a polished edge but it gets them sharp enough for anything I've had to cut. I've also been meaning to buy another one as a backup, maybe that's why they're often sold out, because people like them so much that they buy a few extras.

G'day Brian

Great review

I'm pleased to see you have found it to be a usefull gift :thumbup:

....I'm sure stroppers would feel the need to, I'm not one though...never been able to find the supplies to do so here locally and have just never felt the need for it enough to hunt it down. Personally I'm happy with the results of just using the stone.
Just as a suggestion, you can use the back of the supplied leather slip case as a strop.

Putting the stone back in the slipcase will give the leather the solid backing required. Give it a try, you'll find it works quite well :D

Take care Brian.

Kind regards
Mick

I have alot of stones, but might have to hunt one of those down for field use.I have a Gerber\Harsey Airframe with Titanium handle and 154CM blade, great knife. They did'nt make very many of those.A friend of mines Sister worked at the Gerber plant here in Oregon and hooked me up for half price of retail. The retail was $240 smackers at that time.It was about 12 years ago,I think.Nice Sis huh!

Yeah, that air ranger is just aircraft aluminum and AUS-8...but still a great knife. I did think seven years ago that $44.00 was a little steep for it, but now I'm sure I've gotten more than my money's worth, I've edc-ed it for seven years now at work and everywhere else. That's how it got the two little nicks I'm working out of it now.

Here are a couple of pics I took earlier.

You can tell this knife hasn't exactly been hanging out in a box somewhere.

You can see the one nick really good...I was whittling a peg and didn't know the was a finish nail broke off in the board I was whittling on. It was pretty bad to start with but totally my fault.

A good mod is to turn the pouch inside-out and restitch. Two main benefits of doing this:

1. Provides a non-slip surface to place the stone on while sharperning,

2. Stropping if you please.

I had never heard of it till Mick sent it to me but I love this little stone!

I got it as a gift from Southern Cross...not sure where he got it though.

Yeah, I really like that Gerber, it's held up really well.

Then how do you hold your pants up ??   (Bacon & chocolate like I do ?)

Good tips, but it's a bit of a zombie thread!

While we're back discussing this blast from the past, though, I prefer a Coarse/Fine DMT Dialfold sharpener for field sharpening. Lightweight, compact, easier to hold onto and allows you to either bring the knife to the stone or the stone to the knife (like a file) which I prefer. Keeps your fingers out of the way.
