I'm looking at getting a Fallkniven Forest Knife (I think it's the F-1), and i noticed that it has a convex grind. Will this be more difficult to take an edge, or be more difficult to resharpen/maintain the edge? Also, what are your opinions on this knife, or what others might I look at in the same price range?

I've got the F-1 with the previous bevel grind, very strong, easy to maintain and sharp. With a little care you should be able to maintain a convex edge. Check the sharpening FAQs. I'm not sure it makes much difference in the real world, although aficionados of the convex edge may not agree. This is an excellent knife, small enough to carry without alarming the sheeple, large enough to reduce a moose to edible portions, holds an excellent edge, stain-resistant G-10 steel if you're in a wet or saltwater environment. Just get a sheath from Normark, and you'll be set.

The forest knife is the S-1 while the F-1 is the shorter 3½" bladed survival knife of the Swedish Air Force.

Yeah, the S-1! I'd feel awfully silly ordering the wrong knife . . . darned web companies confuse me by using a different order # than model #.
Glad to hear good things about the knife, or the maker in general, and that the convex edge won't vex me too much. Thanks

Thanks for the explanation, Tommi. I'd wondered - things like that bother me.
It came in today, and looks really nice. I think I'm going to like it!
