Fallkniven F1 or Bark River Bravo-1

It's an upgrade of the Gameskeeper, which has been tested over time.

The modifactions detailed, would indicate that the Gameskeeper was not 100% right for the job. So the new modifications have not been tested over time.

For the record: I own both brands (BRKT HS not BRAVO-1 though), and extremely happy with both their performances in the field.

Nordic i agree, but to get a knife to be 100% right for the job, then youve just made youre self alot of money 8)

By no means am i trying to down on what you said, i just prefer the gameskeeper to the bravo-1( i know im weird.....=P)

To each his own

To be honest I think that's a bit narrow minded. If everybody would act like this then Germans would buy only german knives, the French only french knives etc...
I think it's more fun to get knives from all over the world.

Very true. I get my folders from Spyderco from Japan because I happen to like VG-10 more than S30V. But I tend to gravitate to American fixed blades since in my opinion they have a much wider variety that happens to appeal to me more.

I also try to get all my Bushcraft blades from Finland, Sweden, etc. since there designs are perfect for Bushcraft.

I just recently got to try the Fallkniven S1 and didn't like the handle. It's thin and small. I had trouble keeping hold of it while chopping, that was with my protective gloves on. The edge retention of laminated VG-10 seemed very good.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but from the pictures it seems that the S1 and F1 have roughly the same handle.

You are not wrong. I have both of them, and if you don't like the S1 handle, you will not like the F1 handle also.

Gentlemen, while I certainly see the benefit of shopping at a neighborhood store or buying a locally manufactured product, I think we can speak for that without denigrating other quality products or the people who praise them with as much right as we praise our own.

With all due respect Esav, I re-read the entire thread. DId I miss where other (or any) quality products were denigrated?

Jos, you have nothing to apologize for.
What you wrote was absolutely correct.

I agree that Jos needn't apologize. I wasn't expecting or needing one. But I would disagree on the amount of correctness in that post. It isn;t narrowmindedness when, considering all aspects of a product, one of those included is place of manufacture. Now, if the place of manufacture were the *only* aspect considered, I would change my opinion.

When knives are relatively equal (except for price which I alluded to), place of manufacture can be considered without implying that the consideration derives from a narrow mind. I wonder how much praise would be given if I had said "Since everything is equal, buy foreign!" (At least it might've been considered broadminded)

Hi Trailside,

I don’t own the regular F1, but I do have a micarta handled F1 and a Bravo-1, canvas micarta handle. The Bravo-1 has a larger blade and, truthfully, came considerably sharper. Its handle is wider, longer, more contoured and, for me, much more comfortable. The F1 is stainless and has a nicer finish to it. Both work well with fire steel. Both, as others have written, would serve you well.

If forced to choose, I would choose the Bravo-1.

I have 2 regular F1's and a F1GM as well as the Bravo-1.

If I was to put the F1GM along side of the Bravo-1 Then I would have to have both of them because I would never be able choose one from the other.
I love both of them, however, I do prefer the micarta handles over "rubber" handles.

Get one of each and you won't have to make such a big dicision. :D

Ciao

I have handled both, they are both very nice, but I didn't want rubber handles and ended up buying the Bravo. There were a couple of other small things that pushed me towards the Bravo as well.

Very happy with my choice and I'm loving my Green Canvas Micarta Bravo.

Sverre

Edit: AFAIK the MSRP on a F1 with a leather sheath and black micarta scales is higher than the MSRP of the micarta Bravo with an extra leather sheath..
