If you had to choose one of these for just a general use, hiking, woods bumming, do everything camp knife which would you choose. I realize there are lots of difference, but what would your choice be? A Fallkniven F1 or RAT Cutlery RC-3 tough choice I know. Thanks!

I am guessing a 50/50 for this. I have owned a RAT5, but my F1 is taking forever to get here.
I would say get both. :D

I believe the F1 is a little thicker but I don't think either would be a bad choice !!!

I got an F1 about 2 weeks ago! Great knife, will be much better for Field use than the other knife.

1 thing about the RAT I had, it's blade coating was super tough, and was pretty rough. I found this detrimental to it's slicing ability, so I sanded it off (no easy task) and put a patina on it. Much better after that.

Had both, kept the F1. Either one will do the trick, but the F1 is thicker and I like the handle. After Normark made me a sheath with a firesteel holder, it is my favorite knife. The RAT knives are tough, but are pretty rough in comparison.

I fell in love with the F1 as soon as I saw it. Bought one and stopped looking at knives. I'd been using a Buck 119 before then. It's in my secondary pack now and not in the same universe as the F1. I like the F1 so well, I may just go ahead and buy another to replace the 119 altogether.

That said, I don't know the other knife you're asking about.

I just got my F1 today so I haven't had a chance to put it through the paces yet but the size and shape appear to be just about perfect for me. I have a feeling this is going to be my main camping blade from now on.

The RC3 coating is better than the original RAT3..,the RC 3 is an excellent blade.I will not comment on the F1 due to never owned one ,but the RC is a excellent knife .

I beat my F1 pretty hard in the woods and it's still smiling.I sanded the coating off of the blade that's the only mod I made to it.The leather sheath is scared up a little but it gives it character.
I have a Rat-5 and I carry it in split EDC rotation with my Fallkniven S1 in the woods.

The RC3 probably has a more comfortable grip. I dont particularly like the fallkniven's thin, rectangular (in cross section) handle, makes my hand sore. It also has a fancier sheath.

The F1 wins in stain resistance though

I had both of them. After I got the F1 I gave my Rat3 to my son in law. The Rat3 is okay but the superior ergos and cutting abitlity of the F1 are in a different class. The F1 is also much thicker and stronger.

I spent some time looking at the RAR RC3 last night. I think I prefer the F1. Blade's a bit longer and the reputation is there. Matter of fact, I ordered a second for my other kit.
