Fallkniven knives

Thanks Rich,

The site says the S1 only comes with a leather or zytel sheath. How did you get kydex? I had been on the site before. From what i can gather - they only ship to a couple distributors in the US, none of which were local.

You're welcome!

My Fallknivens with Kydex sheaths I bought two or three years ago. At the time the choice was between leather and Kydex.

I carry my S1 in a spec-ops combat commander sheath.I modified the S1's kydex sheath to take a belt clip instead of the fabric stuff it came with.

Thanks DINKUM,

That explains it... Knifecenter is selling for $119 US for zytel and $129 for leather. Are these the best prices for the plain S1, rubber handle or does anyone know of a better buy right now?

Thanks again for all of your knowledge.

telocky,

Check out this site: http://www.knifeoutlet.com/shop/catalog/2478.htm

They have an S1 with leather sheath for $104.95 + shipping ($8.00).

I have never bought from them so I don't know how reliable they are. But if
this price is valid, I'm going to order an S1 for myself.

My S1 and it's 2 sheaths......

Nice find Ronin... looks like a score! Hey savagesicslayer, nice mod on the sheath. What did you do to the grip of the S1? Looks like how i tape the grips on my hockey sticks :)

No worries, it used to be that the Kydex sheaths were more expensive, even though they are pretty hard on the eyes. A lot has to do with the sourcing of parts for Fallkniven. Essentially the blades are made in Japan, the leather sheaths are (were, not sure anymore) made in Spain, the Kydex was made in the U.S (prob explains the price) and now IIRC the Zytel are actually the only thing made in Sweden.

I've got the NL3, NL1, F1 and A1. To my mind, Fällkniven are the best production knives for the price. One thing sure, you won't be disapointed.
Here is a bonus pic ;)

I have always bought from either knifeoutlet.com or newgraham.com, both are great..., but knifeoutlet have better prices on most items.

Thanks all, I'm in for an S1. Here is another question though. Right now I have multiple SAKs, many multi-tools, more folders than I could use in a lifetime, a Gerber LMF II ASEK, a Kabar 5 inch Tanto, and soon a S1. Also have a hatchet, Ax, etc, a few hand saws (and wire saws).

Other than collecting knives just to collect (I would really like a couple Beckers, Bark Rivers, Busses etc) what am i missing?

I feel that the Gerber, Kabar and S1 are all roughly for the same purpose/utility. What am I missing to round out having the right tool for any job?? All I can think of is a larger chopper. What do you all recommend, and if it is a larger chopper - which one?? I can't afford a Busse right now... so other than that?

savagesicslayer - does the black dye from the tape wear off on you?? I stopped using it on sticks cause it would. I think that grip tape is a great idea, although i may try it with white even though it would throw the looks off....

Thanks,

I have a cocobolo P1 and an F1 w/the leather sheath. They are great knives. I've found the F1 to be particularly useful when camping -- super sharp, handy size, good for whittling, cutting potatoes, making shavings for the fire etc etc etc. I *really* want a tor or an odin, they are just pretty expensive given that I have a 10 month old at home. Maybe I will borrow from her as she always seems flush :)

I'm not crazy about their zytel sheaths but the knives are of excellent Japanese construction ...I've got an S1, U2 folder, vg10 WM1...

Thanks to all that answered. And you are all right. Got a package from New Graham, and inside was a beautiful Odin. Nicer then I'd imagined. Hair popping sharp, and I can't stop looking at it.

For choppers I have a couple of Khukri's and a Becker Brute. If I had my choice I'd still want a hatchet for chopping, but the Becker has been one of the most versatile knives I've used.

Thanks,

For guns I have used the 3M grip tape product used for such things as stairs. I bought it at Home Depot. It came in strips.
