With a risk to be boring I am going to nail another newbie question. I am very close to purchase one of this two knives: Fallkniven Northern Light NL2 _or_ Cold Steel Recon Scout San Mai III. I am thinking about the bigger versions of this knives - NL1 Thor and Trail Master San Mai III, but first I need to see it in live.
Which knife is better? Any opinions and suggestions will be highly appreciated.

P.S. This forum will be a much much more helpful if has the Search function enabled. Without this functionality all the knowledge in the forum is wasted. Enabling the search function will reduce the continuously repeating identical questions also and the amount of newly created posts. :(

I suggest paying the $10 to become a basic member so you can use the search function.

As far as the knives, I would get a Fallkniven in whichever size works best for you.

Screw the 10 bucks! Use Google! in the search bar type "whatever you're searching for" site:www.bladeforums.com. You may have to look for a minute, but it saves you 10 bucks a month!

10 bucks a month? Where are you getting that figure at, Big Boy?
Oh, and thanks for supporting BladeForums...

+1 for the Fallkniven, I would never buy a cold steal product (except for that boar spear :D).

I have the SanMai trailmaster from Cold Steel. I like it a lot, and have been using it for 5 or 6 years. (I own a bunch of their stuff, and have never been disappointed with anything I have purchased from there (shop around for a good price first).

I have heard nothing but raves about Fallkniven products. The Northern lights Thor goes for $300 ish, and will probably be an excellent knife as well,

BUT that said, in that price range I think you can get better knives. For example for that price range there are excellent custom bowies for sale on this forum all the time. (some times more of course). Or, you could look at the Scrap Yard Dog Father (a meaty beefy chopper). It is 100 less than the Fallkniven, and about 60 less than the Cold Steel Trailmaster, and I guarantee that it will outperform either. That is going off test that I have seen. The steel is high carbon, so you will have to take a bit more care of it, but it should be tougher. As a bonus those keep their value very well if you take care of them, and decide you want something else after using it. .....

If you want something with a bit more wow appeal (and even more chopping power) for about 100-150 more than the Fallkniven thor, you can pic up a Busse Battle Mistress..........which is what I wish I had of course. It will be the ultimate chopper and indestrcutible (made by the same group as the Scrap Yard, but a different brand). They are for sale on the exchange here quite often, and hold their value extremely well also.
(of course there are other excellent choices as well out there).
hope that helps.

Since both are Japanese laminated stainless steel, whichever fits your hand better. If both fit you well, whichever has the best price.

try searching with google like this

Code:
Cold Steel recon scout site:www.bladeforums.com

go fallkniven btw :)

I like all my CS knives except the Bushaman Bowie (I love my regular Bushman) and I would still go Fallkniven if I could. Someday I will get my A1.

I think that the CS Recon Scout in San Mai III steel is a beautiful and strong knife. It is a little pricey, but if you can afford to get one I say go for it!
