I'm thinking of getting a large, tough knife, and both of these appeal to me (the obvious answer is to buy both, but I can't right now). Fallkniven and Greco owners--which do you prefer, and why?

Hi, I cant´ speak about Fällknieven knives because I haven´t bought one yet. I plan to do so.I´have got a small Greco companion and I can´t praise the maker or the knife enough. The knife is one hell of a sharp one, sturdy and well balanced. It´s hard to believe that you can get a quality handmade for that price. I´m shure that the larger blades will fit your bill.

I dont have a fallkniven, but i can tell you that Greco is, for the price, one of the best knives. The people over at greco are also probably the best to work with. I have the green river camp knife and it is AWESOME.
The knife is super stong, and for the price you cant do much better in a custom, plus they are ready to ship.I highly recomend greco to anyone that wants a great knife at a great price.

Hey Summerland...

I've got a Fallkniven AI,, and boy it's a workhorse.. It's one heck of a Honk'N blade...

It will do pretty much anything you need it to do..

The entire Fallkniven line, is a sound investment for sure. Price is decent for the quality of knife!

Hi, I can't comment on Fallkniven, but I can tell you that John Greco makes a fantastic knife for the money & if you have a problem He WILL stand behind what he makes. Also, he's a custom maker as opposed to a production maker,{Fallkniven} & if you want a custom touch,{different handle material} he probably can accomadate you.

I have both the Fallkniven A1 and F1. Both are great knives for the money. There are plenty of reviews of them here on the site and you might want to check out Cliff Stamp's reviews. They are very detailed www.physics.mun.ca:80/~sstamp/knives
This thread has gotten me interested in finding out more about Greco knives. Does anybody have a web address for them? Thanks

Hi Seahawk, unfortunately Greco dosn't have a web site yet. I talked to his wife a few weeks ago & she told me hopefully in the near future. If you want to see a selection of his knives, go to www.hammerheadknives.com. Again, I think he makes the least expensive Toughest knives out there

Summerland,

Greco makes a great knives, period. Plus super nice to deal with. Fallkniven are great, too; but if you have the chance,go with a custom maker with a great reputation.

Tom

Thanks for the info. How can I contact Greco directly? (As if I don't have enough knives on my wish list)

I have the Fallkniven A1 and really like it a lot other than the sheath that came with it - Normark is helping me out with that though, I am chomping at the bit for it's arrival. As others have said the A1 is a real brute for its size - maybe too thick for some tasks. The VG-10 steel holds a very keen edge and seems to be very corrosion resistant. I just discovered Greco knives and must say they look awesome, I am going to order a companion this weekend. Can anyone tell me what kind of sheath comes with it? Looks like indeed the best solution may be to buy both
