Fallkniven quality issues

Friend of mine also experienced edge chipping and broken tip on his F1 during first use (well, tip bent first, but it broke when he tried to bend it back straight I think).

No company can make perfect knives without ever making a mistake, but they should at least admit fault and help their customer, especially at this price range which is everything but cheap.

Price and expectations go hand in hand, at 30€ I'll ignore a lot of things, uneven secondary bevel, lack of fit and finish... and so on.
And then when it comes to 300€ - I'll expect perfection, perfect fit and finish and also flawless performance at pretty much most tasks, no chipping or rolling, decent edge retention and no breaking even when batonning.

I have to say that I think the comments being posted here are completely civil. Not sure I would be able to do that.

Quick check on the currency exchange reveals that the FK knives they are talking about are about $700 USD. You can buy an awful lot of knives that are nearly perfection at that price, and certainly knives that are 1/4 of that price that have great customer service.

Shame on you FK. More for not standing behind your product than the fact each specimen wasn't up to good QC standards.

I had varying experiences. I have 2 WM1's, a TK3 and a TK2. They are perfect. The TK2 is one of my most used fixed blades. 3G rocks.

I had a PXL and a P, they where rubbish. The bolster from the PXL came loose. Both folders had centering issues due to the softer teflon washers.

Not sure what you are looking at but 300 Euro = approx $353.00, still way too much for these issues but no where near $700.

You can buy a nice CPK FK2 with Delta 3V for that shipped and be set for life.

I've always stayed away from FK because of issues like this. The company doesn't support their products when compared to knives of similar cost. I also don't like the "too many chefs in the kitchen" aspect. Sold by dealers here, made in Japan, with European "style" support (read garbage warranty). Always wanted one as they look fantastic. Never been able to get over the many, many reports of issues. That, and I can get far better quality, with better materials, and better craftsmanship made right here in the USA for the same or less cost, and actual product support!

coinbuysell coinbuysell , you are right! Keep needing to get to the optometrist...

Still too much money to spend on a knife from a company that won't warrant their product.

There are even reports where Fallkniven just reground people's blades after they broken off the tip, since they don't consider it as manufacturing defect, they consider it as user error.

It's interesting.......not a single person posting a positive experience. Very telling.

Maybe you could try doing a micro bevel to see if it helps any ? Sounds like you’re pretty much on your own with this company if you’re having an issue.

I've been reading of FK blade issues, mainly chipping IIRC, for the last ten years. They sell their knives as hard use survival, but only warranty them for slicing vegetables. I'll echo the sentiment that I love the looks, but will never buy one.

Ill add, the S1 looks like a copy of the Cold Steel SRK. Any one wanting the S1 would do well to find an SRK in AUS8, which used to sell for ~$35!

It surprises me to see all these negative comments. I have several Fallknivens and have had several others in the past. All have been perfect in fit and finish. The couple I actually used have performed well.

Over the years I have heard that the edge from the factory on the convex blade is ground too thin, so it has chipping issues until sharpened little. So could it be more of a grinding issue as opposed to heat treat issues? That is sad that they are giving the customers a hassle. Generally like the overall design of the F1 and S1. I have an older S1 with a solid VG10 blade before they started the laminated VG10, never put it too the test. I was happy as a collector to get one since they ran rather high when they first appeared in the market.

Honestly, at 300€ price tag you should be able to beat the snot out whatever type of wood you want without even thinking about it...

I've had no issues with any Fallkniven that I've had over the years. Anything made by man is bound to get fouled up in one way shape or form at some point in time! Disappointing to hear that instead of trying to make the Customer service 5 stars, the people at Fallkniven just piss on people's cornflakes. For what they cost, they should be more amenable!

I had one of their big bowies, the one that looks like a trailmaster, and i had it hanging on a wall, and one day i noticed that there was some separation in one of the rings of leather in the leather handles, maybe from temp changes? i got it at a good price,so i and took it off the wall and sold it.that was my one and only FK knife. Even though its made by Hattori, which i highly respect, i cant deal with an issue like that.Good thing i never used it who knows what would happen to the handles...
