Fallkniven Question ?

are all Fallkniven models made in Japan? or are some made in Sweden? if so, which models? if some models are still made in Sweden, is there any difference in quality?

It is all from Japan and I suspect that in General Fallkniven works with Hattory. And Japanese top brands quality is same or even bit better then US brands and European. I doubt they need Fallkniven to control them.

Hattory is only company I know making CovreX laminateed knives plus they made a lot of stacked leather hunters, so it may be them making NL.

Thanks, Vassili.

It is interesting but with so many knife Brands in Japan not too many actually present on European and American market directly. Only Kanetsune was somehow available. But many american brands are made in Japan - SOG, Spyderco, Katz.

Is US market is closed somehow for Japanese knife manufacturers?

Thanks, Vassili.

You can readily buy Seki-cut and Mcusta knives in Europe.

Right, I forget Mcusta, it is widely available in US. I guess it is more that others do not really like to expand their business in US. Prices here way lower then in Japan.

The Fallkniven stuff is excellent--I believe the tang under the rubber handles is straight all the way to the back where it sticks out so you can batton the back.

The blanks have a different tang altogether.

I would go for the satin finish myself....but that is only a preference.

Enjoy your new knife!

Ok Fallkniven fans. Who out there has a picture of the tang on an A-1. I have an older A-1 with the solid VG-10 blade and a rubber handle. What does the tang under the rubber look like? Is it the same as the A-1 blade blanks?

Thanks in advance

I rehandled my S1 and it is a lot slimmer than the blank blade. If you are going to rehandle it you will have to mortise the scales. I'd say the rubber is about 1/8" to 3/16" thick before you get to the tang.

The tang has the lanyard hole and the two little holes that helped hold the rubber on.

I actually x-rayed the handle of my older A-1 today. I made a disk and planned to pulish the image tonight but there is an error on the disk. I will post it tomorrow.
Just as has been said here the tang goes pretty much straight back from the blade but is very wide. It has a slight curve to it but I don't think it would be much of a grip with just slab sides on it. The grip panels will have to be mortised.

Here is the flouro-scan of the handle on my older Fallkniven A-1 with solid VG-10 blade.

As you can see it is a good bit narrower than the original grip, without a finger guard. I guess a re-handle job will require a mortised tang handle.
