I am looking for a general purpose knife for camping and hiking. I have decided on Fallkniven, but don't know if I should start off with the S-1 or the A-1. I have a Livesay RTAK, but I am looking for something that is a little smaller for humping around the woods. Which of the two is more versatile?

Both of these knives are great but, as you probably know, are different sizes/weights. If you are carrying a small camp hatchet/ax then I'd go with the S-1. If I only had one edged tool at my disposal then I'd opt for the A-1. In my opinion the A-1 is a true survival knife because of its versaility and size. But I wouldn't want to carry that weight unless I had a specific use in mind and expected to be in a really difficult environment. The S-1 should do nicely around the camp site

Before a couple of weeks ago, I would've said without hesitation, Get the A-1.
Now that I have the S-1, I honestly think that it is a better all around knife. The A-1 is kind of heavy duty and not really the best choice for food prep and such around the camp. I understand that it is a good skinning knife, but I have no experience in this area so I can only parrot what I've heard and read.
The S-1 is made of thinner stock and the convex grind is a really good cutter and it chops carrots, celery and onions with authority.
I hope this helps.

If you're carrying an RTAK, carry the smaller knife, the S-1
