I am looking for a back country camping knife and have narrowed it down to these two.

I searched and found a thread on the F1 vs. a Pup 2000, but was hoping to get some opinions on these more appropriately matched (IMO) models. Price, size, and design are all quite similar.

Any input would be appreciated!

+1 on RAT cutlery. I've been seriously drooling over that RC-4! I have an S1, but not a SOG, so I can't really compare. But I will say that you really can't go wrong with Fallkniven quality. Although some will disparage the clip point blade of the S1, and prefer the F1 because of this. I'd say don't rule out the F1 in your decision. It's a small knife that performs bigger than it's size would indicate.

If those are you two choices, I own both and would recommend the Fallkniven. I have been very impressed with the out of the box sharpness and edge holding capabilities of my F1.

I'd go F1 as well. That and a SAK.

Out of those two, Fallkniven. I have tried/ owned many blades in my time. My whole world changed when I bought a BRK&T North Star! That is without a doubt my #1.

falkniven.

better steel, ergos, and fit/finish. i dont care for the plastic sheath, but there is a leather available.

If the price you got on the Seal Pup Elite is similar to the Fallkniven, somebody is charging too much for the SOG or its a heck of a deal on the F1. The F1 is around $100 to $120. the SOG is around $65 to $80. The Seal Pup Elite is a very handy, rugged, and good knife, but it ain't no Fallkniven.

I hear ya regarding the price difference, which is why I am considering the Elite as a 'lesser' but more economical substitute to the S-1. I found an Elite for just under $60, and am considering buying it for abusive use over the summer (work camps in rural Alberta) and purchasing an S-1 (or perhaps A-1) once finished working and concerns of losing the knife in camp moves or having it stolen from tent (I do plan on having it on my at most/all times though) are irrelevant and funds are high.

Thanks for all the input guys! Anymore is welcome!

It may not be a Fallkniven, but the Seal Pup Elite is a good knife. Use it and have fun.

I have the SOG Seal Pup Elite in straight edge and it is a good knife. I am currently having the blade reshaped to a modified-spearpoint though. I didn't really care for the drop-point on it.

I've got both. While the Seal Pup Elite is a good knife, the scales tip in favor of the S1.

S1----

If possible try and see which one fits your hand better.

The S1 is a better made knife---But if you do not like using it--it will not matter much.

I have both---S1 ia a better knife.
