Fallkniven S1 vs ESEE RC-6.

First, NEVER get your hopes up for a factory edge.

Sharpening of the fallkniven will be easy, all you need is sandpaper.

The convex grind will vastly out perform the flat of the eese for your needs.

Its does not matter the steel, if you drop it on rocks it will look like you dropped it on rocks.

Lastly, don't stab your knife into a tree and pry.

All in all, based on your requirements I'd say fallkniven.

The rust is not bad enough to seriously effect the performance but knives will rust if they are not oiled for a few days and its just enough to irritate me extremely. I assume the VG-10 would hold up to a drop or being stabbed into a tree I broke the tip of my buck 110 off into a tree and I didn't even put much pressure.

You can't really compare the thin clip point of a Buck 110 to the S1. Totally different beasts

I would say to get the Fallkniven A1. More comparable to the ESEE 6 and a great knife. Just my opinion.

If money wasn't an issue sure but more or less an Esee R6 and a S1 is closer in price than an A1 and R6 and even $120 is pushing the budget.

I know what ya' mean, brother. Just thought I'd throw it out there. I was lucky and bought mine when they were solid VG10 and only $110. I will say though, any kind of Fallkniven is worth every cent...and then some!

when people ask me how much i paid for my fallkniven's, their next question is usually "is it worth that much?"

to which i generally respond: "ask me in 20 years".

The A1 was easily the best money I have spent on a Knife this far. My absolute favorite go to, well rounded knife I have. Of my collection, Bravo 1, S1, F1, RC6, Junglas, Izula, Mora 2010, Mora 2000, Sp5, Heavy Bowie, (the goners: Sog Seal Team Elite, Seal Pup Elite, Gerber LMFII, RC4, CS Kurkri and RC5) and a few machetes...I use the A1 alot! The F1 (it is new) but is also ramping way up the charts.

Unfortunately the best answer seems to be "get both".

As always. :D

I like carbon steels like ESEE 1095 and Bark River's A2. I have knives from all three manufacturers mentioned here, Fallkniven, Bark River and ESEE. They are ALL superior knives. I lean towards Bark River lately. My next hard choice is between the Fallkniven S1 ( I have an F1 and love it) and The Bark River stainless steel Bravo 1. I have the A2, cabon steel Bravo 1 and love it. I carry it hiking all the time, but in a humid environment, I can see the benefits of SS.
