fallkniven sold?

I had read that the reason he is selling Fallkniven is because he is sick, I don't own any Fallkniven products, but I hope the guy is gonna be okay.

Onto the Chinese issue, I have no problems with anyone on the basis of their religion or ethnic heritage. While China has made big strides towards capitalism, they are still governed by communist leaders, and those leaders like for things to go their way, by any means. The govt could be run better.

As for Chinese made products, some products that I have bought work better, some are POS. Usually, the Chinese knives that I have bought have been crap, one of the reasons I have not bought the Buck stockmans at WalMart. On the other hand, I got a well made car stereo made in China several years ago at Walmart, and it still lasts in my beater Toyota p/u. It all depends on the level of quality assurance from the company, the skill of the workers involved, and the quality of the machines. BTW, I bought an MTech folder, designed in the USA, assembled in China, and it is my primary truck knife, it does everything. I had the same exact knife, same exact manufacture, and it was a POS. I guess its just luck of the draw for now, but I would expect China to become a good producer within the next few years.

While I still prefer American and Japanese made knives, I might pick up some Chinese made knives in the future.

What's the difference between the green button on a CNC machine been pressed by a china man or a man from Japan IIRC

It's not like it was american to start off with FFS

I have a custom knife made in Hong Kong, a great knife made by a nice guy

Andy, the Chinese are famous for ripping off stuff. I dont like it. I wont buy it because it deprives the inventor/designer/company of the reward that should be his/hers/its.

Like I said, this isnt an attack on the Chinese people, but on their methods.

When they stop ripping off designs and come up with something that is both unique and well made I may buy it. Until then, no way.

Temper. So I guess you don't buy Bench Made either then? I've recently read here about them doing the same thing.

Back to the topic at hand...

The asking price was around 2 million dollars.
If every single one of our 30,642 members was willing to chime in with $66, we could buy Fällkniven. Or, probably a tiny bit more realistic, maybe 1000 members with 2000 bucks each?

For the record, it's not my idea, this hypothetical scenario of lots of members getting together to buy Fällkniven was discussed on a German knife forum.

No, I only buy Blue or Black box from BM. The simple reason is that I don't need an 'Entry level' knife.

Look, I'm not saying that they can't make good stuff, in fact I will only buy Taiwanese Motherboards and Korean RAM but I also dont subscribe to the 'you should/must buy it' I dont feel its my job to ensure the Chinese people have an increase in prosperity, I dont like the way they are destroying the air and that 70% of the rivers are too poluted to drink from. I am doing the little that I can to stop it. Bottom line is I dont want Chinese knives, period.

What has all this stuff got to do with the original post? This is turning into something that should be in the political forum.

Yes Keith it should. It just evolved this way, oh sorry it was intelligently designed this way ;)

never heard of the keyoto agreement that the USA decided not to sign as although it would help the environment it might not be the best thing for US fat cats

The Asian competition would kill us.

:D

It's a bit late to start worrying about China now. About 25 years too late. When Ronnie Reegun killed the PATCO union, anyone who could read should have foreseen this result.

Wages and jobs leaving the US and ...........all...........US manufacturers (and it now appears to be ANY non-China company) might as well sell out while they can still find a buyer.

Sad but true.

:barf:

Keith said it! I don't want to close the thread or move it to the Political Arena because it does have a knife-related topic, the possible sale of Fallkniven. How about if anyone who wants to talk politics goes off to the Political Arena and leaves this thread to its topic?

The real question is, are they going to keep making the same knives, in the same way, only with different owners? Maybe nothing will change except who is signing the paychecks.

That would be the optimum result. I just hope that Peter is able to sell the company. If not, he is just going to shut it down and sell off all remaining stock. That would be a real shame.

+1 million for relocation costs; Where Fällkniven AB is located, there are no seasons - just white winter and green winter.

the workers are less distracted from their work so they keep producing the fine knives ;)

I'd hope that the people who buy it (really hoping it gets sold) keep making the knives they do now but carry on develping new knives to the high standard we expect.

(I have a fallkniven and there are really any others that take my fancy right now)
