Hi guys
I'm from New Zealand and while we can get Fallknivens down here the exchange rate of $NZ to $US plus shipping make them about twice the price to me than what they are in the Northern hemisphere, so I have decided to try and make something like an F1 out of local materials (4.5 mm D2) micarta instead of thermorun with a narrow full length tang.
Now that I've got that out of the way my main question relating to Fallknivens is to do with the protruding part of the tang at the butt of the handle. Fallkniven say it is for hammering on to drive the knife into wood or whatever. I guess much like a chisel. Who all has done this? or does it regularly and why do you do it?
I figure if I go for a mortice tang type design I can either have the end stick out of the handle or cover it over to keep moisture out depending on the usefulness of the exposed tang.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Kevin
