Hey guys another which to buy question... Looking for a small necker styhle blade to get preferably a stainl;ess or corrosion resistant one I own an f1 and was considering the wm-1 can anyone tell me anything about these?? convex grind?? how do you like it..easy to sharpen?? tough?? all the usual, Thanks

If it's a stainless blade you are after Riley then I'd guess the WM1 is about as good as it gets !
I did once look into getting one myself and found nothing but good reports on all the threads I looked at !!!

Well, the 3G steel is stronger than the VG10 and the price difference is not that big. Pick any and you will not be disappointed. The difference in normal and extreme use is that the 3G holds the edge a bit better.
I heard rumours from someone who heard from someone etc. that the WM1 is popular with Swedish special forces. They use the F1 or S1 or even the M95 Sissipuuku as their basic knife and keep the WM1 as a neck knife in case they drop everything else.
It has all the features the bigger ones have (except the protruding tang) so it is easy to use a firesteel etc. It is a knife that you should get and keep as a backup if you are into the survival thing, use it as a super extra mushroom picking knife or get one for your wife for christmas or use it as a hunting knife for small animals.
It is a good first knife for the kids too. I dont really think it is convex though.

I EDC my WM1. So it`s currently my go-to knife of choice. One thing i`ll have to warn about, is that the handle is rather squared in cross-section, so it has a tendency to "bite" into your hand with hard use. (Say, trying to whittle or cut hard, dried wood.)
So i`ve actually been thinking about getting myself a bare blade, and make my own handle, which fills out into my hand more.
Also, i was quite surprised how small the knife was, but after the initial shock, it`s just... Perfect! (Aside from the minor fact of the handle.)
And it is convex! Well, it`s a full-flat grind, ending in a convex grind. (Full flat as in the kind you see on SAK's.)

(A note on the difference between VG10 and 3G. I`ve also got a H1 in 3G steel, and i find that the VG10 is MUCH easier to sharpen. The 3G steel isn`t that difficult to sharpen really, but it does take a little more time. Both pop back to razor sharpness after a few swipes on a loaded leather-strop, so unless you plan on going around hacking at anything in sight, like cars, cement, concrete or bricks, i`d say it was up to your own preferences.)

I'm not sure of the price difference between the VG10 and 3G, but I have the VG10 and love it. It's just one of those knives that comes in handy and is easy to carry. I don't carry it via neck-lanyard, but I do have a figure-8 550-cord harness (MercHarness) that works great under my ACU shirt. It's been part of my EDC for the past 12 months and has really come in handy. The convex grind is easy to sharpen. I picked up a chunk of leather from one of the Turkish bazaars and my wifed shipped me some wetordry sand paper (220 up to 1500 grit) and it's a few quick strops and I'm GTG.

well I hope it lives up to the hype, I just bought one....Sharpens like a regular convex grind??? THanks for the help so far guys, keep em comin

RH... Good to see you brother... If I can figure out how to post on here I will... also on the fallkniven website there is an in hand pic that you can click on to enlarge...My biggest concern with this knife is the vg-10 It's reiliant which means it;l hold an edge but will probably be a pita to sharpen...I think on the fallkniven webdite they say it has a convex grind...so sandpaper and a mousepad should go a long way...

Yes, the WM1 is a convex grind, so sandpaper/wet&dry and a mousepad is really all that`s necessary to sharpen it. And it`s not really a pita to sharpen. I don`t think so atleast. Hope that helps!

Oh,sorry to hear that my friend.Don't think you could go wrong with a Barkie though.I've been wanting one also.

I have a mini canadian... I love it but I don't lie the (ricasso??) that extra finger thingy above the handle, as I get a great grip on it without it.. I know it's crazy but I'm always afraid a carbo steel knife id going to rust up out in the wet woods....I'm not sure but I think the cutting edge on the mikro is almost the same as the mini

I just checked on one of the companies i`ve ordered stuff from in the past, and crocblades had the WM1 in stock. Not to push you into getting one, cause if you want a barkie, i doubt it`ll do you wrong. Besides, it`s your choice ofcourse!
(I checked my regular supplier of sharp objects too, that`d be knifecenter, but they didn`t have it in stock.)
I`ve heard lots of good things about barkies, but i`ve yet to get one, so if you choose to go that route, please give us all a small review of yours!
