so given the choice would u get the beretta or benchmade rant?

The Beretta, no question. Ultimately the job of a knife is to cut, and the blade geometry of the Beretta makes it such a cutter you can't even imagine until you have actually tried it. The blade literally 'pings' when it slices through hair, and they pop off because they are cut so cleanly.

You already have an F1---there's no tougher knife and the BM would largely be a duplicate in terms of function. Get something different this time.

If you don't like it you can always sell it. I know at least one person that would take it off your hands:D

I agree with elkins45 - get the Beretta.

Made by Moki of Japan as mentioned. One of the world's premier knifemakers.
Razor sharp out of the box.
And it's a Bob Loveless design! Beautifully proportioned and balanced.

(BTW, I have an F1, Rant, and Beretta Loveless Hunter.)

Cool to get them both, good value too, but I'm just curious why you have 3 SS fixed blade with similar size. If you want a tough knife, carbon steel is much better suit for you need.

I was curious about the same thing

Than again, each person has their own preferences.

.....these knives often get overlooked; I don't know why.....they're very well made, and Moki does something special with the 8AUS used on the Loveless models. My Beretta cuts like a demon. It's ridiculous too that you can get one for about $30 if you look around.

Hey - it's a global economy - your Swedish Falkniven F1 was mage in Japan (VG10 steel).

There is nothing wrong with the RC4 and it's 1095 CS - it's easy to re-edge and very durable - and easily protected. It's US-made - as is another suggestion.

How about the Benchmade 201 'Activator+' ~$75-$85 - D2 - nice leather sheath. The Buck #005RWS or GYS are decent buys, too - even if they are 'just' skinners. The first one, in rosewood/brass/CPM154 with a leather sheath runs ~$75-$80, the other one in 420HC and with a handy horizontal Kydex sheath runs ~$55. I also think, although a bit 'Tactical', the Buck Nighthawk series - 650 - plain/full blade (too long); 655 - part serrated/short blade - $40 at WallyWorld, have some merit. I have the 650 and other three knives mentioned - all US-made. Nicely done, too.

Stainz

PS My BM 201, with it's great/hard D2 blade, came dull out of the box... a chore to sharpen.

I myself have a whole bunch of Fallkniven knives. I currently use a H1 but I also bring a bend and smash knife for the messy stuff so I dont get my preccccious dirty :)

I know it might sound strange but the smash and bend knife brakes I will have an even better as spare.

The carbon steel knives are great i am sure but the rant, f1 AND beretta will be plenty tough..i was all about to get the rat but i like the slick style of the knives is not a factor i bought....plus rust is not a factor in any of them..i may one day buy a rat 4 just for the hell of it..maybe for father's day..!

Gerber prodigy. Serrations may disqualify it but for the price its good. 12C27 blade pretty much a LMF2 without the steel pommel, still is full tang.

I've got an H1 myself and I wonder why you don't use that for a smash and bend knife. It's thick enough and the rubber handle will clean off nicely! :D

For a small knife, it's a real bear.
