False Edge/Clip Grind: Geometry

Hello,
I had a quick question.....

For clip/false edge grinds on large bowies, what is the "proper" ratio for length?

Assuming a 10" blade, where the "drop" in the blade tip begins about 2/3 of the way to the tip, approximately how far towards the ricasso should the clip be ground? This seems to vary by maker, with some having almost a raised clip (higher than the spine of the rest of the blade), others having the clip start exactly where the drop begins, others sweeping the clip past that drop point to about 1/2 way along the flat....

Anyone have any ratios or geometry that "work?" If not, I will just use my own judgement....

I don't know if there is an industry standard for it. But I bring the clip past the "high spot" toward the ricasso. On the dimensions you mention, I would bring it maybe 1 inch past the transition.
As well, I would never even consider grinding this in! Too much at stake and too easy to get off-center.
Stick the knife in a knife-vise with the point toward you and draw-file the clip.
Much more control. Once you do it that way you'll never grind again.
It may seem like it takes too long, but doing it correctly ONE TIME is always easier than doing it twice or doing it wrong. Once you get the corners off, it takes very little time.
Get a new, "designated", sharp, high quality file that you'll use just for draw-filing clips and you WILL be amazed at what you can do.

Really? Maybe i'm a grind master, but I dont see grinding the clip any different than grinding the bevel on an edge at a much steeper angle unless im missing something? I get what you mean about less room for adjustment, though.....

I really enjoy draw filing, though, so i'll surely try that out!

This was the biggest clip i've ground....almost a double edge:
