Anyone familiar with this outfit? My son made quite a nice bit of change over the past few years selling stuff on eBay and he wants to expand his range a bit. My understanding is that this is an online database of eCommerce wholesalers? He's hesitant because they're asking for a $300 "membership" fee! Any advice?

Thanks, Coug! I keep forgetting that questions like that "qualify" for TGBU. Hey, I'm old and dumb, OK! Just ask my family! :)

I've never sold on eBay (but have bought one or two things :)), so no firsthand experience here.

Looks like there are a couple of threads that mention onesource if you do a search on this forum, as well as other info that might benefit your son. This is a UK-based forum, but no doubt much of the discussion applies globally.

(You may already know what follows; if so, just ignore). Chris Malta is apparently the "brains" behind onesource as well as its sister operation, worldwidebrands dot com. You might want to include this info in your research. Here's a lengthy thread on yet another forum, discussing his directory (haven't read it, but sheer length suggests it might contain usable info).

Not that authoring a book automatically confers credibility, but the Amazon reviews from buyers of his book may help give you a sense of what he and his companies are about (see "35 customer reviews" just beneath book title at top of page).

Whoops! Noticed your profile says writer/editor. Ignore the credibility comment. :D

Hope this helps.

Dan

No way! If you hadn't said it, I would have! :D Too many people believe that the written word is law - which is why our newspapers get away with such biased "reporting". Question! Question everything!

(and thanks for the info  )

I'll give you some valuable advice. 1. Don't give anybody a $300 membership fee for anything on the internet. 2. Don't get involved in selling brand name knives on eBay. Ebay customers expect to pay 1/2 price for knives on eBay. Since knives are highly discounted on web sites and people want to pay 1/2 of that discounted price, the great majority of brand name knives are sold below cost on Ebay. If you list a knife at cost, it won't sell. If you let people bid on it the final bid will be below cost. You might be able to make a little profit on a few items but, on average, you will lose money trying to sell brand name knives on Ebay. If there were money to be made selling knives on Ebay, I would have $100,000 worth of them at auction all the time. As it is, I use Ebay to clear excess inventory.

Hey Outlet!

I admire your eagerness, but...

1. I was asking on behalf of my son, not me. He wants to resell small-stuff electronics by way of drop-shipment.

2. I have no intention (or interest) in selling knives on the internet or anywhere else! (In 10 years as a collector and BF Gold Member, I have re-sold a maximum of maybe 3 knives!)

But I agree with everything you said!:) Unfortunately, it had no bearing on what I asked! :D

Since you're in a knife forum one would assume that "expand his range a bit" meant knives. Just a guess. Sorry to have interrupted.
