It's great when Family, Friends and Co-workers are looking out for your steel needs. This is a one week haul. Plus purchased 7 American made files from the pawn shop for $1 each on Friday.

The big sawblade will probably work, as well as found steel can, but the smaller ones might be carbide tipped, which means that the steel that forms the body of the blade is worthless. as far as the mower blades go, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/657675-lawn-mower-blade-steel
Railroad spikes can make amazing practice and fun knives, but usually aren't high carbon. As far as the files go, give them a shot. They might just work out.

Also, please put a location in your profile. It just helps us to be able to know what area you are working with.

Thank you for the heads up, I am fairly familiar with metallurgy. I was just excited about the folks around me supporting my hobby. I will take all of the material I can to practice. RR spikes make pretty good oyster shuckers, the handsaw blade makes pretty good fillet knives and so on. Also got my location in there.
Thanks, Shannon

Thanks. The website has alot of growing to do. Hopefully I will be expanding the knife selection with some of my original designs very soon. I need to make more time in the shop.
