Family Camping on the Mokelumne River

Gem quality garnets have some value. This deposit has been worked as a mineral claim; one year we went up Garnet Hill to find signs posted indicating that someone had reactivated the claim and collecting specimens was forbidden. That sign stayed up only one year, and no one has worked it commercially since then.

American Idol? Are you basing that on the picture of my son by the tent?
 
Salt Springs Reservoir is a great place as is the Mokelumne River and its only about 45 minutes from my house. I can actually take logging roads all the way there without ever touching pavement. Maybe I'll go there for the long upcoming weekend. Should be a great place to try out my new canoe and a few other new toys:D
 
Tourmaline up there? Awesome! I had no idea. I only knew it was around the San Diego area.
