Fanboy dirty word?

I'm a big fan of Becker and Esee, they both make excellent blades that can take a beating, hold a good egde and have cool people to talk with.

That being said I do like other companies also but seem to favor the two mentioned.....

You're not really a fan boy till you don the burro suit.

I guess I am in no danger then. Baaa :)

i think fanboy is a stupid term. most people here enjoy quality and have some brand loyalty....im sure, like me, if Becker put out a crappy knife, we would NOT buy it..

I usually like what I do for several reasons and I am sure the next guy does to. If they want to have a discussion about the pros and cons that's fine with me, but if they just want to claim their knife, gun, chapstick whatever is superior in every way because they paid more or their buddy told them so then I just kick them in the nuts and go about my day.
Besides everyone here already knows Beckers are superior to everything ever made. That's why were here.:D

IMO a "fanboy" or "fanboi" is anyone who thinks that whatever they have is the only right choice and absolutely everything else is crap. (Kinda like Tex Grebner and Cold Steel- but he's just ribbing) I call myself a fanboi occasionally to keep my ego in check. There are some companies that I will support until they either lose quality or go under (Ka-Bar and Leatherman) but then again, they are not the only companies I like.
I personally think that true fanbois are intolerably annoying.

I think that's a good point. You don't see anyone being called a drop point fanboy, video game fanboy, laptop fanboy, or car fanboy.

It's always ESEE fanboy (:D just kidding), Xbox fanboy, apple fanboy, Honda fanboy, etc...

Actually I am wholly a spear point and flat grind fanboy. When I see that I get all giddy.

The term "fanboy" has been around for longer than the internet has been commonly available and unless the company is just pure crap would really only infer negative connotations towards the individual. If someone is a "fanboy" it's because they see no flaw or wrong in their "idol" and see nothing but flaws in everything else. They refuse to accept that anything else could be comparable to their idea of perfection. A Becker fanboy would only use his Becker knives and nothing else (or very little, but they would prolly be fanboys for the other stuff anyway).
BTW you all have SEGAs right? I had to pause Sonic and Knuckles to read this post..

;)

Yeah what he said too...
:D

Brilliant discussion. I'm an editor at a magazine and we had the same conversation this week. A fanboy (or fanboi) is anyone that has a blind loyalty to a product (or idea), making him unable to admit there may be flaws or shortcomings to the item he adores.

Mac fans are a great example of folks unwilling to acknowledge any issues with the platform or company.

Full disclosure: Been using a mac for over 20 years and the current OS (10.7 Lion) is Apple's version of Vista.

And I agree with thatotherguy in that "true fanbois are intolerably annoying."

Fan boy? No sir, I'm a fan man. A true blue dapper Dan fan man damn it.

Really I gravitate more towards BK&T for a lot of reasons. Those reasons are listed in another thread, but they're the same reasons we're all here to begin with. I won't blindly buy any product just because of the name that's on it, but I do feel positive that Ethan's name and product is very important to him. I trust in Becker knives 100% . I own many other brands of knives, but always seem to go for a BK&T when I need a blade.

Well, I am a fan of Becker knives, but I wouldn't consider myself a fanboy. I don't need to blindly follow BK&T because their reputation and quality speak for themselves. I trust in that quality and reputation, and therefore purchase their products (albeit more than other companies). So I guess we just have a really good business relationship.

And come April 1st, our relationship will grow a little bit stronger! ;)

For you and me both. I'm glad to see the being discussed so intelligently. I have also gotten more information than I had before. For whatever reason the term, or the consensus seems to be that it is a derogatory term. I too am a big fan of Becker, just as I am a big fan of Spyderco. But, I am also not blinded to a flaw or a design that just doesn't do it for me.

I have said this more than a few times but my buy in comes from the person behind the company as well as the quality of the product. That said, is one of the many reasons I am a fan of {insert your fav here}
