Fancy knives - WARNING: non-CPK content . . and it gets worse

Well, the focus was supposed to be on the knives, rather than me. Particularly as there's already been quite a lot disclosed in various threads here, and there's not much interesting to say in the first place.

Yes, I am a Brit, but I haven't lived there in any settled capacity for around a quarter century. This collection is the result of 14 years in the US (the first decade of which, unencumbered by wife or child), and having disposable income for the first time in my life. I do have a preschooler, but she's pretty good about not messing with stuff she shouldn't and the knives weren't strewn around the house. A couple of display cases would be rotated to a bookcase, and the rest would be squirreled away. The most dangerous and accessible knives were still in the kitchen.

As for lots of $$$, well yeah, I get a decent East Coast professional salary, but I'm pretty thrifty in general, and I don't have other expensive vices (except a small collection of premium optics). The vast majority of these knives were in the $200-400 range when purchased, the custom folders around $600 or so - I got in early on a couple of popular makers. I've never bought $2,000+ custom folders - the most valuable knife I have is a K18. Add it all together, and yes, it's still a pretty ridiculous amount of money tied up in steel, but like I said, I'm not a big spender otherwise.

And going forward, my buying days are largely behind me. I moved to East Africa for the next few years, and whilst I may pick up the odd thing that really appeals, and want to get a number of the new CPK models coming down the line, I'm mostly removed from temptation. Will probably slim down in future, particularly if we do end up moving back to the UK, but for the time-being, it's difficult to choose what to let go.

I wish the Fiddlebacks family of knives makers would use cru wear, magnacut, and 3v, they would be damn near perfect for my uses.
I haven’t paid attention to Fiddleback for a number of years because I already had enough in that style. They did do some outsourced production blades in 3V, and they brought a few of those back in house to put on custom handles, but it’s not quite the same as their regular hand-made output.

BTW, there are two early Andy Roy knives in the collection. One of the ones in the Fiddleback case is an early model that predates his regular BF sales. But there’s another amongst the photos which is one of the earliest knives he made. Kudos to anyone who can spot it.

Most excellent collection Brummie. I see maybe five candidates to the early Andy Roy knives. Possibly the top knife in the '5" utility fighters' photo? Also, the one in the 'pocket fixies' picture, fourth knife down, there's something about that knife that just really jumps out to me as extremely useful. That's a lot of fine steel

That was made by (Big) Chris Berry to my design. I think he used 10V.

Yes, that is a Fiddleback - a 3-finger Karda - but it’s not an early model.

It should never be about the collector or the $$, just the collection. Otherwise, folks will decline show their good stuff.

And there is so much good stuff to talk about here.

Big Bowies with straight clips, and swedges. Beauty.

Phillip Patton goodness. I also marked him early, just never invested.

That first Tendick? OMG. And he doesn't work in that style anymore. I did get a skinny Oreganto a few years ago.

Gotta love old Al Mar.

Also nice to see the work of some Makers that I've never heard of.
