So like most Fiddleback fans I spend a good deal of time thinking about knives and which one to get next. I've gone back and forth about a millions times on this blade, that handle, that thickness and so on.
I got my Leuku a year ago, love it but its too large to EDC.
I don't often have the opportunity to pick up a high end knife so when I do I have to be super cautious and make sure I've really chewed on it. I am sure most of you are chuckling as no amount of rumination will end the need for another knife but I want to make sure I at least gave it a go. Andy and everyone else up there have made this a very difficult choice. So what is this one for? EDC baby, EDC everyday.
So at long last I have settled (for know LOL) on a monarch. The blade profile and size will fit my carry concept of a very versatile blade that could handle some bush-craft if needed though still be slicey.
I know since they are hand made the size varies a bit but it also seems to be somewhat consistent around the 3.5" blade length which is exactly what I am looking for.
Specifically looking for a monarch in bog oak with black liners and white pinstripe.
I know the bog oak would increase price but if you have one unused and would not mind releasing it to a new home shoot me a PM with a price and a pic or two.
Or even one somehow lingering in a reserve caddy, you know, maybe.
Second part of the story
During this process I decided to photoshop some options to better help me think it through. I only came across two monarchs made in the past year that came close.
One is black linen with an orange/red pinstripe, I would also consider buying that one. There was another in black linen or canvas with white pin stripe and mosaic pins (looked amazing)
So I took those two photos, cut out the knife of one, took the pins from the other, made a background from an image of paper I made to use for digital painting. Some other FX and digital shennanigans and voila made a few
"Fantasy Fiddlebacks" This included grabbing a few images from the web of various woods for sale.
Disclaimer/TO BE CLEAR: These are photo mashups and other painting and digital FX techniques to make these images. They are not real and I do not imply Fiddleback Forge made these or offer these configurations.
These are merely my musings on what I think looks cool. If these need to be removed please let me know and I will do so immediately. Any copyright of images used is retained by the originator or owner and are not owned by me nor do I imply ownership by anyone else or any other entity.
What I would love to find/Wanted
1/8th Monarch in Bog oak with black liners and white pinstripe -a most delicious yet muddy tasting ice cream sandwich.
This is the same with a single mosaic pin visible
Was wondering what Chola Cactus may look like (liner sucks on this one, could not get it to look right)
Hmmm, straight up Ice Cream sandwich look, pretty sleek, I like it
Perhaps a green pinstripe, likey, but I think white or red work better
Maybe some sort of gnarly burl, pretty cool (but bog oak still wins for me)
Ooh what about spalted maple, no idea how well it would do for knife scales even stabilized but man it looks sweet.
Next I have to start on planning on one of Allens, or more like one of each
